So I got frustrated rummaging through my cellar and decided to pull out all my big bottles (anything bigger than 12 oz) and see what I had stashed away.

I figured bringing them to my workshop would allow me to put them all on the table and organize them by release year. I forgot just how many good beers I have in there. Some whales too. Three Cantillion's (behind the Avery's). 4 different 5050's eclipse.

I really need to start drinking these. Tasting party?

Thought you all might want to see some pics. Up next is the 12 ouncers.

I am not sure what is going on...but I can see the image on my phone using chrome. But when I am on my computer at work (explorer 11) I can't see it.

could someone do me a favor and see if they can see the pic in a mobile browser?

Thanks! I should have spread them out more. So you guys could see all the types. I have 1 case of 2015 BCBS (the box in the back is full) the bottles to the right of FW, are the 2016. I think I have 8 of those...I can't wait to open the big bad baptista from epic.

Those baptista's are excellent...Did you get to try any double barrel baptists by chance? Those were my favorite of the 3.

Yup, got one of the double's too. I like to let my bigger stouts age a year or two. But I usually buy more than one. So it may be a gamble not tasting it fresh.

Is there a reason why you're sitting on things like baptista and the botanicals and barrels stuff? Those flavors are just fading away.

This all my big bottles. The botanical s I just picked up a few days ago. As for aging barrel aged stuff. It is an experiment you could say. I try to put stuff away that is 10% or higher or is bottle conditioned.

    Thanks

Firstly, glad you finally got the pic up! And...

Wow! That's a lot of beer! You'd better get to work on that!

I understand that's your plan, but you might want to actually start working out a plan. I'm not sure how often you're digging into your cellar, but some of those beers are not the kind of thing you keep around for more than a few years. Even with just those not including the ones that will keep, a tasting party might be a good idea. Cheers and good luck with that!:slight_smile::slight_smile:

I appreciate the recommendation. I have a local (albeit small) beer club. We do quite a few different tasting parties. I agree the beer has become more about the find than the drink.
We dig into the stash all the time. Just can't drink more than what keeps coming in.

I am curious, of the beers you can see (which I know is many) what would be your recommendation on not aging?

    Thanks Ryan

@Rytr I personally do not age anything with flavor additions like fruit, vegetables, and spices. Additions like coffee, vanilla, cucumbers etc are just like hops, they fade fast and change flavors in the oxidation process. Nothing worse than green pepper stout when you wanted coffee.

That is a fairly good rule. I do know some exceptions. I don't age any fruit beers, less it be a Lambic or Kriek (one the best I had was 6 year old Cantillion Kriek). Also, I have had few aged FW Parabajava's and the coffee holds up quite well in that one.

    Thanks,

How did the cellar reduction go? Those Deschutes, Bruery, and Firestone beers are all good with some time on them. Enjoy!
