    You're confusing me.

Velvet Merkin used to be a 5.5% Oatmeal Stout, it was tap only, I had it on tap at the Taproom in '09
They started bottling the same beer, but changed the name to the current Merlin.
They kept making a beer under the Merkin name, but it is now the 8-9% barrel aged version, that is currently served tap only.

That's neat, now I have somewhere to report all the 6-month-old Double Jack that's on shelves. (I went looking a while back, I didn't find a single bottle that was less than 4 months old. Absurd!)

Same, that's an odd choice. Using so much VM is strange, too. The rest of it looks interesting... I'll try it. I wish they would remake XIII; I don't think the two after were anywhere near as good.

I wonder why the head is so light in the picture.

Maybe they made it just for this blend?

That's why I'm going to pick up two bottles and compare them after a year or so.

That's been my experience with all of the anniversary beers. Some have held up better than others, but I don't think they have improved with time. *

    * Admittedly, I think this is true for most beers in general, not just this series.

i agree! maybe one out of 10 beers i try has made an improvement to taste (to my palate). im mostly hoping to preserve the taste longer than improving.

looking at drgonzos list of beers i think it would benefit doing 10 thru 16 instead lol. 10-13 have seriously fallen off unfortunately, and i really liked 12 and 13 fresh

Looking forward to this one. I loved 14 fresh, but I wasn't as crazy about 15 (which I think is drinking a bit better now).

Agreed. 14 was amazing fresh (I still have one in the cellar, but I expect no improvement). I really didn't enjoy 15 when it was new (I assume because of too much Helldorado, a beer I really am not in to), but I'm hoping it's improved when I get around to cracking the one I have left.

I had 15 this week and it was awesome. I think you'll be very pleased when you choose to crack that one open.
