I guess I'd say I enjoy these kinds of flavors added to my IPA because there are a lot that I've enjoyed but at the same time there are also plenty of poor examples so it just depends on the beer. I feel like as a general rule I like the added flavors to just be subtle and complimentary but there are there are definitely exceptions to this as well. I also don't consider adding fruits to a beer to achieve certain flavors as "cheating" because I place fruited and non-fruited beers in separate categories mentally.

I get the point of OP. Some styles do really well with adjuncts -- wheat beers. IPAs, I think are special without them.

I had a Cookies n Cream milkshake IPA last night that was okay. The adjuncts were barely noticeable, but you got a vague sort of cinnamon oatmeal cookie taste.

Are you sure it isn't brewed with Jolly Ranchers?

I like a lot of stouts with added ingredients, but I just can't get on board with the fruit additives in IPAs. They sound good in theory but just don't don't for me. Sidecar is the closest to a one I have had, but I still would rather just have SNPA with the orange added.

I don't much care what they brewed it with. I like it. It's tasty, refreshing, drinkable, not too sweet, and 10% ABV. What could possibly go wrong?

Half Acre makes a Guava IPA thats just came out and is fantastic. I like a few others, but its gotta be well executed, just like anything else i suppose

I've had some good ones, especially from Aslin and Tired Hands. Vanilla is a surprisingly good addition as well, in an (D)IPA.

Generally though, if something is in an inexpensive 6pk at a grocery store, and has fruit in it, it's gimmicky, and honestly haven't yet had one in that scenario that was any good.

I'm surprised that it took this long for the Watermelon Dorado potshots to start. Keep 'em comin'! :grinning:

I don't mind additives. I haven't drank IPAs in years until I kept thinking about trying Habanero Sculpin. Tried it and love it. That beer has convinced me to slowly pick up more IPAs.

I'm totally with you on this--don't fuck with the IPA's. If you can't get the tropical, citrus, aroma and flavor with the hops then learn how. And like you, I'm okay with adjucts in the stouts.

I'm generally a sucker for orange-flavored anything so orange/tangerine flavored IPAs always catch my eye. But I finally had to realize that I just don't think they work very well for me. I like @TongoRad 's description above of how the flavors somehow seem to clash rather compliment.

I did take a flyer on 21st Ammenment's Blood Orange IPA this past weekend simply because it was the most interesting thing they had at a small store I happened to be at, but I ended up wishing I'd just got their Blah Blah Blah IPA instead. If you like this sort of thing though it was VERY blood orange forward.

Gonna go out on a limb and say that those who like the taste of them disagree with you. and those who don't like the taste of them agree with you. Hope this wasn't too daring of a conjecture.

Treehouse, Trillium, Bissel, Aslin, and Ect. All use adjuncts in making there beer. Granted they aren't all using fruit but most them are using some form of Flaked Oats, Barley, Wheat, Rice which are all adjuncts
