I've been thinking about this. How much profit are they realistically going to be able to make off a single full allotment? You would have had to basically put in a full days work to buy it then put in time to sell it all. In the end how profitable is it really?

I guess I have some vitriol reserved for privileged people who have the money to buy time and still afford what they want. I think this is a larger question of income inequality and who is more deserving of goods. If someone from some rich family in Connecticut is able to purchase something I want without putting in the effort only because of a privileged circumstance than I will be upset (likewise for myself. pot. kettle. black). I'm not saying that is always the case but I know that my disposable income goes to beer not people waiting in line to buy me beer. It's just a larger philosophical question of ruthless capitalism vs. income redistribution (or i'm thinking too deeply about it).

my two cents. i should just stick to drunk math.

It's almost like if Other Half put a reserve/guarantee price of $60 on the canned beer. That would deter a lot of people from purchasing and I think the #LineDudes is a representation of that.

There is so much good beer in this city and the surrounding areas that if people have the time and money to wait all night, then let em. If someone has the money to pay someone else to wait in line and then pay more money to buy the beer...good for them. I agree with @rozzom that the resellers are the dicks here. I haven't had an Other Half beer in ages, kinda sucks, but in all honesty, don't care all that much. I'm drinking a good beer pretty much every time I open one. No wait for any of them 99% of the time.

I'll add that people bitch about who shops where (in other threads)...who fuckin cares? Let people do whatever the hell they please. If I go into a store and I see a store selling a beer (Other Half, Grimm, Sand City, etc) for $9-plus dollars...that's when I care and that's where I hope you guys and gals draw the line too.

Dr/TL: who cares what people do/don't buy illegal markups.

Today was absolutely ridiculous, but as usual other half handled it very well.

Applying for Global Entry includes TSA Pre-Check, it costs $100 and is good for 4 years. Best $100 I've spent in some time. With that said, I can't afford first class but at least I'm able to skip the majority of the lines

As far as income inequality goes in general, I'm sure we share very similar sentiments. I'm as lefty as they come and fully believe the system is so far out of whack.

As far as buying uber hyped craft beer goes though I don't agree. If one person is able to spend $ on expensive craft beer and another is able to spend $ on expensive craft beer AND spend more $ on top of that for someone to pick it up for them, then both people are just in slightly different buckets of the "doing just fine" category - society doesn't have to worry about either.

Well these people usually are the ones that have a few people with them too. I saw 4 packs selling for $75 on FB. Tekus end up going for $50-$80. So let's make a "theoretical" with some easy to use numbers.

$20 for a 4 pack sells for $75= $55 profit per 4 pack. If you were allowed four 4 packs of each beer (I think Taters was less but this is theoretical) then you have $55 x 12 = $660.

    $15/teku and 4 tekus say they sell $65 a piece= $50 profit each teku x 4 = $200.

So without counting the hats or shirts we have $860 in profit from one person. Let's assume they brought a girlfriend and 3 home boys with them. Anywhere from $2-3k.

Let's take that picture we saw today. How many 4 packs were there? If each box has 4 4 packs they had 48 total. $2640 for beer. 20 tekus? Another grand. $3600.

Theoretical #2. One case each, 3 beer release. Allowed 18 four packs aka 72 beers. Bring 3 of your boys. Sell them for $10 on eBay like any TH or Alchemist beer. You are flipping $1100 a weekend. If you are from Jersey and have a car parked 5 minutes away and a short drive. Not a bad way to make an extra 25 grand a year for a few hours of work.

....opened at 8:30. Said they'd open at 10...

Agreed on the other stuff. You either accept that the hassle isn't worth it or you nab some growlers or draft pours. At a certain point, not everyone gets everythong and that's ok.

Anyone who feels the need to camp out overnight on a street in Brooklyn and spend 12 hours on a weekend to potentially make $1000 in profit selling beer on eBay, should take serious stock of their life.

This release was probably a couple/few grand. Hence the madness. Any other regular weekend might be a grand.

And yes. They should take a serious look.

I get not wanting to continually open too early and have some kind of escalation, but if they're not planning to drop limits and the beer will be entirely gone by the end of the line, it doesn't seem entirely out of line to open early and sell it out.

We're in agreement. I was addressing the idea that they opened 4 hours early and people were still complaining about how they handled it. There's too much negativity in beer right now, but I think one could still make a reasonable critique that isn't just a shit on the brewery.

Obv agree 100% re: income inequality (the global socialist revolution to a required-labor-less society is coming, I tell you!!!), and I love the shots fired at the state of Connecticut, but tbh, aren't we all privileged fucks if we're tryna buy multiple $22 four-packs of thicc // juicy // pastry IPA and complaining about how many hours we have to spend waiting on line to acquire it??? I mean, like, perspective, man..... no? These are literally <1% first-world problems.. We all suck!

thing is $1000 in profit per week is $52k potentially tax free. thats not some chump change in the grand scheme of things.

also, people who do not think that a majority of early goers are not reselling to make profit/break even has their head in the sand.

we dont all suck and at this point this isnt just beer. this is a allegory for the times we live in and also its exciting to see new markets form and how people act within base on current soceital norms/constructs.

If that much is actually being sold on the secondary market at those kind of prices then are the sellers the only problem?
