Jackie O's (2018)

Anyone know if there is any beer available at Jackie Os? I don't have time to call. Thanks.

 

I called. They said it's all gone.

 

I FB messaged them from work around 11:00 Friday night. Someone actually got back to me and said there were still 9 cases left. My boss let me duck out a little earlier than we were staying Saturday morning.

A quick shower, gas tank fill, and 3.5 hour drive later, I was at the Brewery door just after 10am. (I legit thought there would be a line and was hoping I wouldn't be the 19th person in line.)

I had both DBDA and CC11 fresh on tap and got bottles. I'd like to thank CbusBrews13 for the idea to FB message them. The brewery was closed by the time I was at work (and the number seemed to dwindle so low, I didn't think the public house would have had any bottles left Friday night), but still got through on FB. To be honest, if I hadn't gotten confirmation of any remaining, I don't think I would have driven 3.5 hours to Athens on the chance they had any left. So, thanks again for the FB idea CbusBrew13; that was a life saver! (Oh, and thanks to the wonderful woman that was taking care of the Jackie O's FB stuff for getting back to me somewhere between 11-12 Friday night and again early Saturday morning. I didn't really expect to get a response at either of those times, but you made sure that I'd be able to get there and get some bottles. Thank you!)

@beace strange question, but do you have any BBQ sauce recipes using your beers?

My friends and I are having a Jackie O's party in Cincinnati and are smoking some meats, hoping to use some inspired sauces.

Keep up the great work! Got my eye open for Cellar Cuvee.

 

I do not have anything on hand. Doing a recipe search for beer BBQ sauce and subbing something Jackie O's in could do the trick.

 

I have a couple recipes, but wasn't sure if you had something that you've done in the past. Thanks!

 

Besides tomorrow's Scrip release, the Brew Week site also indicates that BB Oil and BB Coffee Oil are being released on the 21st. Definitely excited if the latter is coming out as the Jackie O's Twitter had indicated a few months ago that it wasn't being released this year. It's also nice to see Raspberry Berliner listed as a draft offering for the week, especially since bottles looked like they were scheduled for August on the release schedule.

 

BBOIL and BBCoffeeOIL are both dropping on the 21st. Not sure what happened on Twitter but those beers will happen every year. Razz Berliner bottles might hit that day too.

 

How crazy does the pub and surrounding area get for Ohio Beer week? Was considering driving in on Saturday for the festivities and then spending the night in Athens but if everything is mobbed all week and their bottles all go then we may just visit a different weekend when so much stuff isn't going on. Not sure what kind of demand there is for something like BBOIL, only ever been during appervation release and it was pretty nuts.

 

I've done Brew Week a few times and last did Saturday's Last Call a couple of years ago and have had a blast every time. There will obviously be crowds with so much going on but I'd say you shouldn't expect anything close to as crazy as the Appervation release and IMO the chance to try so many beers from all over the state (and some special stuff from Jackie O's like the coconut White App and Pomegranate Berliner that have gone on the past 2 days) far outweighs any crowd concerns. BB Coffee Oil was one of the faster sellouts of last year's 375 releases, but even that lasted for about two weeks IIRC.

 

BB Coffee Oil and BBOil are now a yearly release; the monkeys aren't swinging from that branch. If those beers are your main reason for going you could wait a week and be fine.

We're planning to go down to Athens and spend Thursday night. In a nice twist of fate, there's some bands playing at the Casa that I plan to see, and then there's that whole Jackie O's thing going on Friday. And their tap lists look pretty good too. Not sure if I'll venture anywhere else, I didn't see much listed that I "gotta have" , and heat + humidity + lots of beer = not a lot of fun for me.

 

I strongly recommend the food at JOs. Probably some of the highest quality food I have had at a brewery.

(In full disclosure: It was great, but far from the best food I have had at a brewery. But high quality farm fresh for sure.)

I'll stop in anytime I go through Athens. (Up to this point, that's been once, soooooooooooo...)

 

Get a hotel now. The hotels usually sell out on Friday and Saturday.

 

@beace how does this year's yield of coffe oil stack up to last year?
