One of my 5 favorite styles!

Nothing tops Celebrator in my book. I will occasionally pick up a sixer of Salvator for the same price as the Celebrator 4.

Domestics? Nothing in this league IMHO.

I don't really buy the time to market, except from a marketing pov....as someone else stated, if it was thrown in a barrel for that time would be it better?

Capital Brewing in WI -- they specialize in the bock beers. Dont know how far they travel buy it is common stuff so easy to trade for. Everywhere in WI and Chicago area. Dark Dopple, Autumnal Fire, Manoomator Rice.... Eisphyre is my favorite, right up there with Kulmbacher Eisbock. If you cant get someone to help you with it drop a line.

I dig some Bells Consecrator. Also Jailhouse (here in GA) just released Dead Man Walking. I picked up a bomber today that I'm looking forward to trying.

Top three to try... Eisphyre, Capital Square Series Weizen Doppelbock, Capital Square Series Dark Doppelbock. Tett and Blonde are just ok.

Let me say that I love doppelbocks. One can't really go wrong with Aecht Sclenkerla Eiche, which is one of the best doppelbocks I've ever tasted. Celebrator, Optimator, Salvator, Samichlaus, Korbinian, and EKU 28 are all solid doppelbocks. Now if only eisbocks could get more love.

I'll second Capital. If it's one thing they make well it is Dopplebocks. Autumnal Fire is my favorite.

There used to be a German restaurant right down the street from me that had Celebrator and Optimator on tap and you could order in 1 or 2 litre steins. Sadly they closed last year.

Been loving them for decades, and they are still on the semi-regular rotation list
    All time fave- Celebrator
    Best Value- Optimator
    Sleeper chioce/change up- Hirsch

so many other great ones, but those are the ones I usually gravitate to.

I was in my local beer store today and Hinterland out of Green Bay, WI just released a Bourbon Barrel Dopplebock. So your wish is granted! :-)

Doppelbocks are one of my all time favorite styles. Rich like an ale, crisp like a lager. What's not to love. If it hasn't been mentioned already, try to get your hands on Troeganator or S'Muttonator. Both are amazing and probably spelled wrong in the previous sentence.

I guess I'm lucky here in CT that one of the better Doppelbocks out there is local to me - Thomas Hooker Liberator. Tasty tasty beer. Rich and malty, deep, complex, all while not excessively sweet.

I'm actually drinking Dark Horse Perculator right now. I don't have much experience with this style, but I like the few I've had will probably be seeking these beers out more.

Is it illegal to make a doppelbock without "ator" attached to the end of the name?

No, it is just tradition. These beers used to be known as Salvator in Munich. Then the Zacherl brewery (forerunner of Paulaner) stole a march on all the other brewers by trademarking the name for their own version. The other brewers responded by coming up with alternative names that ended in -ator.

Tommyknocker Butthead Doppelbock is awesome.. I think it gets slept on because it's brewed by Tommyknocker.

Capital's Imperial Doppelbock is my favorite, though I don't see it listed on their site. I haven't tried my 4 pack Eternal Flame yet. Autumnal Fire is what clued me on to Capital's great Doppelbocks. I think Capital even suggested saving one Autumnal Fire bottle to enjoy way in the future, if you have the willpower.
