Judging from the IG posts sounds like it was a real good turnout.

Have you ever seen them fill growlers? There is a good amount spilled with the level they fill them to so it's probably pretty close to that

    Yes.
I disagree here; I have never seen them 'splash out' 5 bucks worth of beer.

    Cheers!

That would be 7-10 oz spilled on each growler. I'm sure some is spilled..... But nowhere near that much.

4oz pours go between 2.50 and $4 that can easily happen on a fill.

Most growler fills are more than the 64oz standard fill because they're over filled to avoid the dead space.

This is an absolutely ridiculous argument.

This is a Tired Hands arguement, would you expect no less?

Any truth to the rumor that Tired Hands is pulling out of most of their draft accounts? That would be a bummer, but it certainly seems to be in the works based on the dwindling selection I'm seeing. I guess they will be putting more resources into the canning goldmine. Hard to blame them.

    What is CSA?

CSA in general is just Community Supported Agriculture. Tired Hands last year started doing their own over the summer and they did it again this year. It's for 10 weeks, box of food stuffs and a 4 pack of cans each week.

No problem, here is more detailed list from this week's email if anyone was curious.

Here’s what we home to send you home with tonight!
    Three Springs Farm:
    - 1 pt blueberries
    - 1/2 pt gooseberries
    - 12 yellow peaches
    Happy Cat:
    Shishitos and padron mix
    Russian kale
    Swiss chard
    Onions
    Tuscan kale
    Cheese this week:
Birchrun Hills Farm - Tomme Mole, raw, cows' milk. Alpine style aged in a rub of coffee, cocoa, cayenne and cinnamon. Eat the Rind, Drink the Yeast!
Valley Milkhouse Creamery - Lady Slipper, raw, cow's milk, washed in cider from Stef's family's heirloom apple trees.

    THBC:
Refreshing: our damn-it’s-hot-out-let’s-jump-in-a-river-and-stay-there-all-summer Double IPA. Brewed with heaps of malted oats. Refreshingly hopped with Galaxy, Citra, and Lemondrop! This beer is just real pungent, drippy sappy juicy, and well... Refreshing!

What's the cost of the CSA?

It was $720 for the 10 weeks, so $72 a week.

For city dwellers looking for rare-ish TH on draft locally, Hungry Pigeon tapped a keg of Orange Creamsicle on Sunday (7/16) and POPE is tapping an Orange Creamsicle keg for their anniversary party this Friday (7/21) at 7pm.

    Cheers!

Thanks... so in your opinion, was the cost worth what you're getting out of it? Assuming ~$18 for the beer, that's $54 for the food stuff. Seems to me that if the food is of high quality and sufficient quantity, it may be worth the premium.

I have been thinking about it since joining and my thoughts are thus:
We did similarly priced CSAs in the city for years and had the opportunity again and I will pay a slight premium to support local agriculture. It's nice just showing up on Monday nights and getting a 4 pack of beer. I haven't been able to really make it to releases much lately and this is about as hassle free as it gets. It's also been nice that it's been a different variety each week. The quality of the food has been great, we try to use the greens asap just cause they just don't age well in general, the cheeses have been awesome and both the quantity and quality of fruits and vegetables have been high. There have been some nice surprises not even on the list and random things like tomato sauce and ketchup that have been delicious. So yeah all told I would do this again next summer so far.

Picking up said CSA now and drinking elaborate expectations, love this beer. Apricot, smooth, has that crisp finish that makes you want more though. Hint of tartness but just refreshing.
Science Experiment VI, a lot going on, unique grain on the mid palate and citrus on the finish. I do love this brewery and despite all the release nonsense sometimes I'm definitely thankful they are around here.

I am not a fan of the whole release stuff but I too am thankful that Tired Hands exists.

    Cheers!
