Hello Mountain BA-ers. I will be driving from Denver to Buena Vista tomorrow mid-afternoon. Is there anything of interest along the way, beer wise? ANy must stops or bottle shops along the way? I am driving from the Residence Inn Denver City Center on Champa downtown, if that helps. Thanks for any input you may have!

Looks great! I have a few hours on Friday free, will have to make a run into the town to check it out.

Along those same lines, any good bottle shops in BV itself?

Not a bottle shop, but I really enjoy Jailhouse Craft Beer Bar in Buena Vista.

Eddyline is a fine place to eat!

Eddyline's beers and food are both good. Service is a little hit and miss, but I've never had a bad meal there. Beers range from good to full-on wonderful.
Definitely hit up the Jail House, too. They'll likely have some one-of-a-kind items.
Not exactly "on the way," but Elevation isn't that far away if you have a little spare time. It's roughly 20-25 minutes each way to Salida. They're one of CO's hidden gems if you've never had anything from them.

Place in Buena Vista called 'the simple eatery' is some of the best food in that area. I'd grab beers at Eddyline and food there.

Deerhammer makes a fine whiskey if you're in to that.

Never eaten food from Jailhouse and honestly am not sure if they have food. That said, you can get food at the school bus food truck next door and bring it over there. The food is excellent! Buena Vista is awesome, take some time to walk around the downtown area and pop in a few places if you can. It won't take long as it's a small town! Cheers!

Simple Eatery is great. I definitely second that. And the service and owner are both great.

South Park Brewing in Fairplay is on the way assuming you take 285. Food isn't great but some of the beers aren't bad at all.

Everyone pretty much nailed it, but I'll offer up the Outer Range recommendation (they open at 3:00) if you haven't been following the IPA thread, and if you don't mind a different route.

IMO, Elevation is great brewery and worth the trek if you are with a group that would appreciate the commitment it would take to make that visit, or if you are flying solo.

I think Eddyline is fine choice for being the area....the beer is quality....but I would never go there, personally, if it was in a different, more brewery centric location. Didn't care for the lay out, wasn'ta fan of the vibe/environment, and service was kinda crappy. Didn't eat there, FWIW.

I just went to BV for the first time a week and a half ago. Jailhouse is awesome, there is a food truck, The Bearded Lady, the tacos were good. In the patio section, there is a pizza stand, Crust. They said the pizza is great and they sell out regularly, but alas they didn't open until 5 and I wasn't around to try it.

Eddyline is pretty nice. Leadville has a bottle shop, little selection, mostly sixers, but had bombers.

    Cheers!

Jailhouse and Elevation are must-do's in that area. Elevation makes some really solid stuff. South Park is a neat place to stop in Fairplay too. IF you still have time before you leave Denver, swing by Tipsy's off C-470 and Bowles (a couple miles south of where you'll cross over 470 on 285). HUGE place, I thought they were building a Bass Pro when they first started building it.

I'm actually headed to MN tomorrow too, going straight up north though so won't be going through the cities.

Do they do crowlers or is it just growlers? I won't be able to fly back with a bunch of empty growlers, nor do I have any interest in doing this even if I could.

No crowlers, but it's worth your while to stop by if you're a hophead. Best IPAs in the state right now, IMO.
