Just out of curiosity, did FedEx give you the lecture about shipping alcohol?

Nope not at all. I asked her what the extent of the damage was and she said they told her 2 bottles broke and one can was dented. It was actually pretty smooth

    Big boxes=5lbs
    Small boxes=2lbs

We need to amend that in the trade help thingy.

Does anyone else here throw their boxes around before shipping to test it, and the bottles inside durability?

The box is one pound. Contents are another. Anything requiring two hands is 5. Still have to make it look a little legit so you dont have the suits knockin on your door.

This happened to a box that I was supposed to receive from a great trade partner, exception to damaged & send back to shipper. To be fair, idk what FedEx did to make it look like an elephant sat on it but his wife packed it like a boss because all the important stuff made it back & only one extra was lost in the ordeal:

I wrapped each bottle then put them in a 6 bottle styro shipper and put in more packing material. Then tap the box and drop it to make sure nothing breaks. And this was the first time I got the "damaged box" message.

I will say this is one of the few times I didn't have any large ziplock bags and got lazy and didn't bother.

When I called they said it was minimal damage and would send it on but the next day I got the "sending back to shipper" message.

I regularly ship 20lb packages, I am fairly new, this is my 5th trade and they have all been pretty big.

Yeah they are holding it today for the recipient to pick up, arrangements have been made and I will know tonight which bottles broke.

Glad I over pack and insulate the bottles. I'm sure you could do most anything but run over them with a truck. I pay more more shipping than maybe I should, but every bottle has landed safely, I've never shipped cans though.

So another update for anybody who cares. Fedex didn't hold it like they promised, they just sent it back to me, so I will get to repackage and reship everything. Fucking fedex sucks sometimes.

I just received a box from ups that looked very similar to that, luckily it was just climbing and camping gear which is pretty hard to break

I received a box not too long ago that something broke and they said they were going to toss the entire thing.

I contacted the local FedEx hub and talked to the guy for a while... He said everything was thrown away, but a glass did survive and they would deliver the glass the next business day.

He called back about an hour later and said he dug through the trash and actually only one bottle broke.

He said that I lived on his route home and he just dropped the box off on my front porch... And this guy was not a driver, he was the main manager at the hub.

If something does leak or break, always have a sympathetic back story.... "Oh.... We were friends in college... My wife just had a baby.... Money is tight so my buddy decided to send me a care package... He didn't say what was in it, I guessed it was going to be salsa or pickles.... Terribly sorry it was beer... I didn't know shipping beer was against the rules.... I will let him know that he probably shouldn't be shipping alcohol.... Thanks so much for searching around for me."

My experience with FedEx has been pretty much spectacular... "knocks on wood".

The only time I've shipped Fed EX they busted it and returned it to me intact, but refused delivery for contents. I reshipped UPS with no problems, that ship to CA cost me 100 bucks which was more than the 12 bombers of Creme Bruele I was shipping to a friend. Never tried Fed Ex again, hell the UPS store I ship thru doesn't ask about contents and beer doesn't appear on their won't ship list as far as i can tell.

I just had a box destroyed in Minneapolis, and I pack the shit out of everything I ship. Contents listed as damaged and discarded. All it had in it was 6 BCBS/BAPP/ and about a dozen bottles of Highland and DR mixers. WTF, you would have to throw the box out of a two story window to destroy it. Now what?
