I don't have the BCBS to reship that kinda box. The rest I can easily replace. What does UPS do other than whoops sorry about that?

No I haven't. It's beer, they didn't ask what I was shipping, but if it's not legal to ship it I don't have much of a platform here.

How do I know if I'm on the UPS shit list and red flagged? Might it be easier to have a 3d party like my daughter ship my stuff next time? I had one Fed EX delivery refused for contents, but they gave it back to my, so I assume this one just got trashed, which is why I switched over to UPS.

Its not illegal to ship beer through fedex. I am filing an insurance claim for my package and they will be paying for all broken bottles.

I didn't insure it, does that negate a claim?

If you shipped Fedex then it was insured.

I do the same thing with my styro's but I also use a large black hefty bag inside the box . It will fit around the styrofoam and adds a little more protection.

People please your packing your beer boxes to heavy..26lbs to much..split that up in two boxes and use a MPS label and that will even save you money..If the boxes are more around 10-12lbs you have a better chance of no breakage..Good luck and cheers..

I worked at FedEX one summer in undergrad. "Tumble down a half-flight of stairs" is a gross underestimation of what those boxes go through.

I recently had my first breakage. I stayed in contact with the other party, and re-shipped the box. The damaged box did eventually make it back to me and only one bottle was broken. The part that sucks is that it was "on truck for delivery" so the driver must have threw it down a flight of stairs or something. Good luck to the OP, hope it all works out.

The UPS tracking listed mine as a total loss, pending investigation. If it was something I could replace I'd redo the box and send it, but I can't replace the 6 BCS that died in vain.

I guess I'll add my opinion and suggestions here.

First off there is never a gaurantee that your box will make it. I've seen styro shippers with bottles wrapped in bubble wrap break and I've had non-styro boxes show up perfectly fine where the bottles arent even wrapped in anything. The case of Pannepot I got from Struise a couple years ago showed up in a plastic beer crate with the bottles clinking together pretty good. Made it all the way from Belgium without a scratch. If it breaks it breaks. Deal with it and move on.

Second, I'm not sure that one company is better than another. Everyone has their own experiences. For me personally UPS has just cost me way too much money over the years (an automatic transmission and a carburetor along with some beers, and a friend lost a $2000 Mesa Boogie amp) so as of a couple years ago I only ship FedEx but there are plenty of people who have the opposite experience.

Third, there arent really and "hoops" to jump through when claiming a loss. You fill out the paperwork (you can call and they can do it over the phone for you too) and they either reimburse it or they dont. If they completely lose the box then its easier because they have no idea what you actually lost; just keep the value under $100. They'll even reimburse the shipping cost. They really dont care about shipping booze. Its a dont ask dont tell policy. Most of my breakages have been in boxes that I'm receiving and each time when I call to ask to pick it up its the same song and dance: "sorry, it has to be returned to the sender. Tell them to repack it and try again." Only had three breakages that I've ever sent (less than 1%) and in two out of those three they delivered it anyway. One of them was a real mess because they just threw all the bottles into a large plastic bag and more of them ended up breaking on the return trip.

And lastly, probably the most important point: with FedEx (probably UPS as well but I dont know) you can tell them to deliver it no matter what. Its an all or nothing type of deal where they either always deliver it broken or they never do that. Its good if you're only trading beer. If you sell anything online (eBay, Amazon, etc) and have any legal obligations to replace the broken goods its probably not a good solution but for beer traders its just fine. Also, I'm not sure if it works for everyone. I've given this advice to two different trading partners and both had to call and explain to people exactly what it is they wanted to do. One was successful, one was not. I guess I get some leeway because I do such a high volume (ship about 200 boxes a year). Just pick up the phone and give it a try. FedEx wants your business so they'll usually work with you.

Thanks for the advice, I just assumed it's beer you shouldn't ship it and I'm screwed. I'll call UPS tomorrow and see what I can do. It's not about recouping the money, I'm more pissed about losing BCS that I can't replace easily if at all, and a trading partner I didn't complete a trade with. I'm guessing about 65 bucks worth of beer bit it.

They'll send you a letter. It's no big deal, just a slap on the wrist. I haven't had any issues since my breakage like a year and a half ago, if not longer.
