Nothing will change in respect to Short's. I am still here and day to day life at the brewery is not changing.

So this might be splitting hairs, but the statement is a 19.99% partnership with LaGunitas. Lagunitas is owned by Heineken. With whom is the partnership actually going to be?

Also, before the fecal matter hits the fan, this isn't quite the same as a BMC buyout of Goose Island.

Soooo, how many Humas did you guys go through or did you get it done in one take?

Is Lagunita's (Heineken) opening up distro channels or capacity for Short's?

Why 19.99%? What happens at 20%?

No more distribution channels at this time. We currently have 2 days of inventory in our distribution channel and just want to see if we can keep supplying where we are already. It is 19.99% because at 20% we have to get more approvals for existing bank debt.

Got it, thought it might be something like that. Thanks for the reply.

We only deal with Lagunitas and have had no contact with Heineken at all. We have a fairly solid wall between us and them. And Lagunitas is managed very independently of Heineken. Obviously it is what it is and I am not trying to deny the obvious. But we will have no influence from either brewery.

Not that I have a ton of stake in Short's being from Ohio, but kudos to you on getting in here and getting in front of this. So many people are so far up their own rear ends about "true craft" that the wolves are coming. Also, I think this is best case scenario in a selling of equity situation. Lagunitas continues to produce excellent beer at an excellent price. If anything, I've seen MORE seasonals from them.

From a business perspective, I can appreciate why a brewery would choose to do such an arrangement. There is something to be said for not having to risk everything again as a brewery reaches its next phase in evolution. This is entirely different from the brewery that signs over the entire lease the moment Budman knocks at their door. (See Elysian).

I attribute the burn in slurm to the hops. If you chew on hops it does this tickley burn. Drink m43 as careful as possible out of can then take the last mouthful. It'll do same

okay, i've been meaning to address this comment which i've seen multiple times now.

Do you guys think there is burn to Slurm or Slurm Lord?
If Slurm Lord, then I must be drinking an entirely different beer. The first thing that I noticed when trying Slurm Lord was how absolutely smooth it was. The taste is great and more refined than in Slurm, but above all else, I was just shocked at how smooth it went down, which may be in part to it's thicker consistency, I don't know. I just know that I'm shocked some of you are saying Slurm Lord has a bit of a bite to it.

Its the hops, not the yeast.

I do have a question for the guys at Shorts. Why do you continue to flash pasteurize ALL of your beer? Doesn't the heat adversely affect the hops to a degree in a beer like Slurm Lord?

It's so light its almost like a tickle. I get the same from chewing hops. So i always just figured it was that.

That's possible in this case, but in general I get it with beers that are super cloudy from yeast, i.e. hefeweizens that are completely opaque, last year's Oberon cans that had a ton of yeast for some reason, etc.

Is this to suggest that if it was logistically more feasible that more than 20% would have been sold?

I haven't had Slurm Lord, but I did have Slurm. This mysterious "burn" never materialized for me.

I've always wondered this to... pasteurization has no place in craft beer, besides maybe fruit beers, in my opinion. Heat will always have a effect on hop profile. @ScottatShorts can you provide some insight why you guys choose to do this in the first place, and continue the practice?

    Dude. Low blow.

Is it possible by chance that what we originally envisioned for the brewery simply did not work out due to the various factors of business?

I'm stoked for this Lagunitas partnership. They're cool. I think we're cool. If anything, this will assist in logistics and prices on ingredients- a value that is passed on to the consumer.

    From our quality manager-

We only pasteurize beers with odd ingredients and light lagers. We dont pasteurize huma. We used to no one knew the difference. There are issues that arise when you tunnel pasteurize beer, that are not there when you flash pasteurize beer. The amount off damage from heat when you flash pasteurize is infinitesimal compared to the damage that occurs when allowed to warm on shelf or in the back of a store.
