I'm wondering what other traders takes are on this. I have noticed that I have been consistently overcharged by Fedex on every single shipment I send out when I print out my label. I have never understated my dimensions nor weight and still I'm getting roughly a 20% overcharge when my final quote comes out. I believe Fedex has had some class action lawsuits over this in the past and I'm wondering what if any evidence can be brought out to dispute this.

I'd like to continue using Fedex and pre-printing out labels because UPS from what I've heard is just awful. I'm just wondering if others are experiencing the same thing and if anyone has any solutions to my issue.

The last package I shipped out, they doubled my weight on. They even said it was heavier than the package that i shipped out along side it that was both 50% larger and 50% heavier. Cost me about $10 I think. Pissed me off for 2 days. How the hell do I prove them wrong to get a refund, though? I mean, seriously.

OP, are you factoring the possibility of dimensional weight coming into play regarding what you are getting charged for?

This is exactly it. I too thought I was getting 'up-charged' until I found out about dimensional weight.

I'll look into "Dimensional" weight assuming I'm getting screwed every time I don't have a square box. It sucks and never have I had a shipment receipt confirm later on what FedEx actually bills me. Thanks Eifster82

I know what it displays is an "estimate" but I also have noticed all my boxes costing quite a bit more. The last time they updated the dimensions of my box and upped it by an inch. My problem with that was the box was preprinted on the bottom with the dimensions, in giant letters, 12 x 12 x 15, yet they decided that was incorrect and it ended up costing me an extra $4.

I frequently use Uhaul boxes with pre-printed dimensions, and they always say they are 1 inch larger in at least 1 if not more dimensions.

I believe when you buy boxes those measurements are the inside dimensions. FedEx and UPS go by outside dimensions

I always measure my boxes on the outside and I still see up-charges from both companies, but Fed Ex is always worse.

Just quote both UPS and FedEx when you are about to ship and pick the cheaper one?

No issue at all here with UPS when I have sent beer. Never an issue.

Never really thought about that. I usually measure mine but it was printed in giant black letters, on the outside of the box, and it was late, so i went with it.

Thats what I do. For me, because of my geographical location, sometimes UPS takes 2 days and Fed Ex only 1. So i will factor that in too. For UPS all packages go through the big Hodgkins plant in Chicago area. That place can be a box eater.

do you check that it is a residential address? or do you leave that box unchecked? it is cheaper to ship to a business than a house.

I've read some bad things about ups "losing packages" but at the same time I've been told about a flat rate box if you're not shipping a lot.

I've definitely not checked it being a residential address. I measure and weigh even giving them a couple fractions of an inch on every dimension plus weight. Yeah it's shitty

It seems like almost every story that someone has involves the package being damaged once "out for delivery." This makes me question whether the safest option would be to have packages held at the local store prior to going out for delivery.

This is not possible/reasonable everywhere. For me-given where I live-this would mean a 1 hour drive. But for anyone in a reasonable sized city, I wonder if this would cut down on the number of "damaged" packages.

I now see what you mean about overcharging. I got a bill in the mail for $30+ from FedEx. On the bill were a handful of itemized charges. One for example was a $3.65 upcharge because it was a residential address.

It seems pretty willy-nilly on what they will upcharge you on. I never check the residential box and this is the first time I've gotten a bill with that charge on it.

I always check the tracking for the variances in box size. On the bottom of every box I ship, purchased from OfficeMax, it clearly states 14x14x14. I'm fine if there are variances as long as they're consistent. But to see a difference of 2-3 inches in h,w,l from shipment to shipment is a bit ridiculous. At some point I will take pics of each shipment to submit a formal claim to fedex for overcharging...once my shipments have been delivered, of course lol

as already said, watch the dimensions. i once sent a flat box - someone wanted an emptied case box. i flattened it & sent it. $17 for an empty f'n box less than an inch thick but fairly long in length due to the flattening.

likewise i had questions about recent shipment costs. i suspect they might be putting in all the numbers provided but perhaps putting the length number in the width field or height field & mixing the stated dimension fields up to their pricing advantage.

if you ship to residential and don't check the box most of the time they still upcharge you because they know it is a residential adress
