Thanks for the tips, fellas. We got a nice fresher on the area on our visit last year and cannot FUCKING wait to get back there. I pray we get the weather we had last year.

Looking at G&G definitely. I'm bringing 2 sixes each of Jai Alai and Quinanin Falls, a six of grapefruit sculpin, and a 4 pack of Nimble Giant and Finch's Chimera, and a few bombers I've been saving for an occassion, so I'll have beer at the house but I want the good local stuff to pick up when we get there.

I'll be looking for The Great Return, Hoptopus, Hoppyum or Jade (if that's around), Smartmouth, etc...are there any locals, ale or stout-wise, I should be looking for that haven't been mentioned in this thread already? Thanks in advance.

Should be able to find all those beers you listed, can't remember if I saw Jade last time I was in G&G but they may have it. I hope the most recent batch of Hoptopus is up to par as it's usual, I had some a month or two back on draft that just didn't have the magic of the usual Hoptopus.

    As far as new beers:
-If Secret Admirer from Alewerks is still around, that's a must buy. Probably my favorite locally bottled DIPA.
-Smartmouth released a new DIPA Inside Voice, haven't had a chance to try it but I hear it is good.
-G&G recently got a big shipment of the latest bourbon aged stout releases from Lickinghole Creek.
-If you are into sours, they may have Reaver's Bass Panzer (sour black ale), which is probably my favorite of their sours.
-O'Connor Spyhop is a white IPA brewed for summer, but I don't think there was much left.

That's all I've got off the top of my head, that's what they had last week/gotten in this week. Sometimes stock moves quickly, but they recently added some shelving to the front dedicated to VA/regional beers, so that should make your search a little easier. And just check the area more toward the back for new arrivals. Plus, you're familiar with the place and know how helpful those guys can be.

Thanks man. I'm going all in with G&G, coming in and on my way home so I definitely appreciate the response. I'll have my wife and 2 kids in the car, so I don't think TW is worth the time, tbh. I'll be stalking their social media and website right up until next Friday. You're right too, the employees were great at G&G, for sure. I noticed that new Smartmouth DIPA is on their Facebook page so I'm definitely gonna get that if it's still available.

Haha, what's the odds any of The Veil's stuff makes it to the Virginia Beach area? I'm guessing not good?
One of my friends going with us on the trip is taking a bus to see Carcass in Richmond on the Tuesday while we're there, I suppose I should see if he can get anything, eh?

Currently the odds are zero unless you are looking to make a trade.
Tuesday in Richmond is the usual can release day so that's when you want to be there.

Holy crap. The Veil is right next to the Broadberry?

Echo what @montman said. Veil currently does not distribute cans outside the brewery so no chance of snagging them in Va Beach unless you trade. Good news for you, however, is The Broadberry (where Carcass is playing) is right next to Scott's Addition (the area of RVA Veil is located). it's probably less than a 1/2 mile walk for him. Bad news of course is if he get cans before the show then he would need somewhere to store them. Maybe get before the show and put on the bus?? or he would have to leave the show way early and get cans, if any are left, before they close at 10. The way releases have gone lately they are making double batches of stuff so some things have carried over into the next day so if you want something then you have a good chance of grabbing it while up there if you can work the logistics out.

This is insane. He's staying at a hotel a little north from the theatre. Lol, I'm already working on him. Thanks for the info.

We were supposed to get distro by now but it's going to be a while . They are selling out of everything they can make now at the brewery and it probably won't happen until they up production significantly . They open at 4pm on release days during the week . There is usually a line then but it depends on what is being released .

Headin up there today with some friends .I don't expect to find cans but they have a nice tap list and we should be able to get some crowlers at the Answer . ( not Veil but they make great beer also )

Mekong also has a number of Veil beers on tap (or at least it did early last week).

Mekong did have at least one Veil beer on tap but we had our fill at the Veil . We were able to get cans of Young Lions , they still had maybe 15 cases Sat. nite . Haven't tried it yet but my favorite on tap was Master Master Shredder Shredder .

Went to Whole Foods and TW to see what was around . TW had bottles of Alewerks Secret Admirer and New Belgium Tart Lychee . Was looking for the the new Smartmouth DIPA at WF but didn't see it . They did have fresh Notch 9 DIPA which is my favorite beer from them . Check canning dates , the cans in the display were canned 7/5 but the ones on the shelf were from May .

Hey all....doing our (now) usual Sandbridge trip next Saturday and from going twice now and all the great info you guys have provided I'm pretty sure I know what's going down on the streets there. I love this place and can't wait until next Saturday.

Having said that, noticed a new shop in the area called Bottle craft that seems up to snuff with G&G. Thoughts on which is the better shop? I'm bringing so much I might only do one stop this time. Saw Deschutes is available there now, which is nice. Commonwealth really blowing up now?

What's local I should be looking for in '17, good Virginia BAs? I already scouted a Veil trip, too far and no friends going to Richmond this year.

Bottlecraft and G&G are like 12ish mins from each other so pretty much splitting hairs. Selection is going to be pretty similar, imo neither one is "better" but I do prefer bc's taplist for growlers fwiw, plus you can have a pint there. Dechutes is here but it's only the standard lineup, I haven't seen any BA/limited/bomber stuff yet.
Agree, Commonwealth is putting out some really nice stuff recently. I always suggest grabbing some Reaver beach, their sours are consistently good, they just released a new one yesterday.
Also fyi, lots of people from this area hit up The Veil regularly, you could probably set up an IP trade for some nyc stuff.

Lol, thanks for the info, but if I set up an IP while I'm on vacation, I'll never hear the end of it.
Honestly, I got Crucial Taunt and Toof Ache last year, and both were great, the CT in particular was fantastic, that I'm happy enough grabbing the local VB stuff without the FOMO of Veil. I've liked most of the stuff I've brought home and so do the people I give it to.

Commonwealth Brewing has been putting out some quality beers lately and they've started doing more limited runs of cans out of the tasting room. They've released a DIPA and a pale ale recently both were good, I liked the pale ale better. Last time I was in they had the pale ale, DIPA, two goses, and some of the regular beers in cans as well.

Esoteric near the oceanfront usually has one of the best tap lists in the area if you want to head out for some drinks. Food is great too but a bit pricey.
