Yeah... I don't have Facebook. Unfortunate in this case.

    Here's what they posted.

"We have been quite busy over the last two weeks since we opened, perhaps a bit more than we imagined. Because of this we're running low on beer. Don't worry, we have more in the fermenters, in fact all of our fermenters are full.

    • Sourenity Now! - a Berliner weisse, hopefully will be tapped before this weekend.
    • DDH Dusty (citra double dry hopped pale ale will be flowing early next week.
    • Climbing Through Windows, a DIPA dry hopped with Amarillo and El Dorado will be flowing by the end of next week.

We still have a little Loose Candies DIPA on tap as well as Tueka and Mozie IPAs and plan to keep you all updated.

    Cheers,
    More Team"

The strawberry kiwi Berliner is really good and the DDH Dusty is the best hoppy beer he's released this early on. They're low on beer but still a great day to be able to pop in. Also, I've been here 3 times so far and I find the staff to have been very friendly across the board

So DDH Dusty just got tapped? Or is that the same as from initial release?

Since More has been open, I have visited Mikerphone 0 times. I was thinking about this yesterday when I picked up my Crowler of DDH Dusty and for the first time More had the two garage doors open in the front on a beautiful day and the breeze coming in was so nice.

I like Mikerphone, but I think More is making Mikerphone look like they really didn't implement their new business right. More's Taproom has room for me so far every time I show up with plenty of staff members. Cans are much preferred over giant 25 ounce glass bombers. More has food that compliments the beer and the prices are top notch. $11 for a Crowler and if you want a 5 oz sample... they are much less than what Mikerphone charges ( I like the 5 oz glasses to taste the expensive beer they have for purchase on a release because I want to know what I'm buying first). Not having to wait in line to get into the tap room is my favorite.

Just something on my mind. I like some of the beer at Mikerphone but I really think More really started off on a better footing where I'm not sure how exactly Mikerphone can dig their way out of a small tap room that can't be expanded, no cans (They just bought a 12 oz bottle line... why?), probably the most expensive IPAs per ounce in Chicago, and lots of lines and not a lot of options for food unless a food truck is around.

I didn't write this to offend Mikerphone patrons... just compare and contrast two new breweries. I think More deserves a round of applause for a first good Month and I think they can only get better.

stopped in and had the tueka and sourenity peachy mango. the latter is fantastic.

only negative part of the experience was not being to take a crowler to go...guess they were close to the end of the run.

This has been discussed in the past, but some things to keep in mind.

    1) Funding - we know More had some substantial financial backing before they ever hired Shaun. Mikerphone, it seems, was likely just funded by Mike himself. The disparity in capital likely played a major role in in what both breweries were able to do with space, tap room v. restaurant, etc.

    2) Canning lines are very expensive and more expensive than bottling lines. This returns us to the first point.

    3) If the beer is good people will continue to support both, and its not like the market here in Chicago can't support both breweries.

My guess is Mike can't be fired, while Shaun can....so the brewpub is nice, but...

Mikerphone: Small taproom, no food, brewery beer only - about 7 or 8 tap handles,
sells a lot of to go beer (and distributes when they have extra), is open just a portion of the week. Has been open 5 months.

More: Decent size restaurant, full liquor bar, will have guest taps, currently doesn't sell much to-go beer, is open all day lunch to late night. Just opened.

It's such a different business model - and at different places - that it's kind of tough to compare. I like that both are options! Right now if you want to-go beer and those were you're only options - Mikerphone has way more . Eventually I imagine I'll gravitate toward More when the to-go options increase. But like I said - two great options.

I do hope Mike eventually cans - but the stuff @FBarber is all worth taking into account to me.

I haven't been there since More opened either. I agree with pretty much everything you said, especially Mikerphone's prices. All I can do is speak with my wallet and stop buying till the price points come down or keep going elsewhere.

I agree. However, try to think of it on a more personal level. A guy quits his corporate job and opens a brewpub. Pretty ballsy move. It's successful and people are happy with the beer. Yes, it's expensive for bottles. Yes, the taproom could be bigger. It's still pretty damn cool that he created a beer brand from nothing. Props to Mikerphone. Props to More. We have enough people in Chicagoland to keep them both around.

I finally stopped in at More over the weekend. I really like the space and enjoyed everything I had. I'll stop in fairly often once they get their beer supply straightened out. However, I'm not sure I'll be back until they do, or at least until they tap a stout.

Mikerphone's space is less than ideal. I like the decor, but Mike definitely underestimated his needs. Like others, I would be there more often with cans. However, he still makes damn good stuff and I will be back semi-regularly (with distance being the main issue). I don't see it much differently than trying to visit FFF or Half Acre on a weekend.

Do they have space for more brewing equipment? People are making it seem like they are running through beer too quick.

It seems that they have at least some room to spare, certainly more than Mike. However, I don't claim to know everything about their situation or to know enough about brewing to know how much space they need.

They only had 3 beers on when I went on Saturday, and it seems like they tap something new just in time to replace something that kicks the last couple of weeks.
