I guess that's one way to make a weekend disappear from your memory.

It was over a whole afternoon. So blasted may not be the correct term. Feeling no pain is probably a better description.

I find the sheer novelty of it appealing.

So before even tasting it, you know the barrel is unnecessary? You must have like future tastebuds.

Hah! I appreciate the snark but these were just some thoughts I had about the beer before I tried it. Surely you've had premonitions about certain things you have yet to try? Here's an example, your favorite sub shop now serving a cheesesteak with homemade cheese sauce. You usually don't like cheese sauce on your cheesesteak but it's one of your favorite sub shops so you might as well give it a go. Same thing here. I like Founders and I like malt liquor but having it aged in bourbon barrels does not sound like something that would go together well. Same thing here. Ideally, I wouldn't want my malt liquor to be barrel aged but I'm excited to try it but with just a bit of skepticism about that.

I'll let you know if my concerns were unwarranted.

"Strange that they would put cheese on a cheesesteak but they make a good turkey and Swiss so what the hell"

So what you are saying is you think it's weird that there is cheese on a cheesesteak and there is bourbon in a bourbon barrel aged beer?

    I liked this a lot!

Hot out the gates but super smooth. I really liked the slight taste hops and bourbon up front, and a smooth sweet corn taste with a vanilla finish. I think they did pretty damn will with this one.

Picked up that last two four packs at the bottle shop. Interesting to see how it turns out after a couple years in the cellar.

I have doubted Founders after Frootwood and Lizard of Koz, but this brought me right back.

This guy gets it! Oh wait....

Yeah, okay, I'll admit that it was a poor analogy but it was the first to came to mind (I was hungry and my brain doesn't work very well when I'm hungry).

Let me break it down for you this way: a clean, lager-ish beer style like malt liquor is not an ideal flavor pairing with bourbon in my opinion (I actually don't really like whiskey, to be honest) but I like the brewery and I like the beer style so let's give it a whirl!

I will admit, I'm a bit skeptical when it comes to putting lighter profile beers in a Bourbon barrel. But, this one holds up well. The heat is there at 14.2%, but not overpowering and very smooth. The flavors and aromas are well balanced and integrated.

There are stacks of cases of this stuff at my local grocery store. I bought two bottles, drank one, and will have the other one when the weather is cooler. Its certainly not a "bad" beer, its balanced, no off flavors, and everything works well together. Its just not a style I enjoy, personally.

CBS is a speculation still. Most likely it won't be released. Just like Dr. Dre's "Detox" album.

If you are a literalist then everything is speculation until it happens, but there have been numerous indications including a number of distributors that have been told. It's happening.

DKML was much better than I expected it to be. Warming but smooth. Once it warms up a bit caramel flavors pop. Nothing to go crazy over but a fun experiment.
