Short's Brewing Releases & Updates (2018)

There really aren't that many busting on Shorts, are there? At least not here. Maybe 2-3?
I am looking forward the this next variety pack, hope they made a lot!!

 

I see most regulars on this thread are busting balls in a more concerned fashion. Most of the flamed heat is in the thread in the Beer Talk forum, including a few posts from people from areas Short's doesn't even distribute to, who've never had Short's but had to say that they won't buy it now. It's an almost purely reactionary thread.

I usually don't post about this stuff because there's not much changing people's minds about this kind of topic. It's a gut level reactionary response. I'm extremely tempted to create a thread about a fake brewery selling a percentage share to Big Beer just to bait people into talking trash about a fake brewer. But then I see the rage threads already there and it's not really all that funny.

 

My own rage comes from Starshot being left out of the variety pack. This is the description:

"Starshot is an India Pale Lager brewed with Polaris, Saphir, and Aurora hops from Hop Head Farms in Hickory Corners, Michigan. Sounds great, right? It is! I gotta see a bottle release one day.

 

I want to know if Spruce will be for sale in 6 packs at the pub, I know some variety pack beers have been released like that.

 

Just making a general observation between this thread, the other one on the beer talk forum, and all "well informed and educated" bigots on facebook

 

19.99% deal with Lagunitas won't change the quality and doesn't make them sell outs. I get it. Its a business. Businesses are in business to.. well.. make money. I bet in the next couple years there will be lots of cool new stuff and shenanigans popping up at the pub and elk rapids as well. My opinion of shorts won't change bc of this. In fact Ill be there in soon in August. Cant wait ! !

Going to see if the local Meijer has the variety pack in stock end of this week. Sidenote: Grabbed a six of Slurm Lord and its drinkin pretty good. Gotta love the experimental NEIPAs in michigan.. lots of variety popping up. I still will reach for an IPA or Pale over NEIPA tho

Damn I wish I could snag one of those variety packs. The Spruce Pilsner absolutely blew my mind two years ago. Sometimes I wish I still lived in Michigan.

 

All right, it looks like Hazy ControversiALE is on tap in advance of the bottle release next month. Whoever gets some is hereby obligated to report back to the group.

Also, cracked open my crowler of Gitchy Gitchy Ooh La La a few days ago and... Wow. I can see opinions being divided on that one, but I found it excellent.

 

Also interested in this. @HopHeadHerman Hitting shelves this week I assume? Not the biggest fan of regular ControversiAle, but rather enjoy Simcoe hops, so hopping this one does it for me.

 

I keep checking to see if Bloody Beer is still on the schedule. Alas, it is still there. Please don't replace it with another IPA (there is still plenty of I Got Five on It around).

 

Very curious about Hazy ControversiALE. Is it just an unfiltered version of the regular like Unfiltered Enjoy By or something different all together?

 

Looks like it's a variation on the Simcoe theme, with an additional dry-hop with Simcoe powder.

New Beer Up!

 

Here's something for BA fans, Dogfish Head fans, Short's fans, and most importantly, homebrew fans! Sam Calagione has partnered with the BA bros to bring Exteme Homebrewing:



This one has a lot of crossover appeal here at the site, so I thought I'd drop it here since it's tangentially related to Short's news with Joe Short making an appearance. Also, I know a few of you guys are homebrewers as well. Maybe we'll get some hints on how to brew some of our own favorite Short's beers.
I'm only three batches into my homebrew experience, so I'm pretty excited to see how these guys put things together.

 

Picked up a sixer of Hazy Controversiale today, very different. It has a very good flavor, it definitely lingers on the palate. Its no Slurm Lord, but its a solid offering.

 

I'm fine with the whole Heineken thing, but could you guys stop putting my favorite beers in variety packs?

 

No specifics needed, but something along the lines of last year's Hoppy Holidays? Four different legend-level brews?
