I had El Zacaton (Hubbard's Cave) on draft yesterday....that was instant diabetes. Definitely the sweetest/dessert stout I've ever had. I had 5oz of it and I felt like I got a sugar rush. Even with all the peppers in there, I didn't think it was anywhere near enough to offset the sweetness of that liquefied Cinnabon. I can see how people that likes sweet stuff would like this, but it just isn't quite for me.

It was not at Orland park as of this morning. The BW is still there though...

No Cassian at Bolingbrook or Downers Grove either. Called both today

Is El Zacaton still at the Une Anee brewery to go in bottles?

    Thanks for update

I bought a bottle yesterday evening, saw at least a few around.

Also, the beer is pretty intense, definitely a great entry to the mole stout style.

Do you know if it was just released at the brewery or if it will hit distro as well?

I was told brewery only, I haven't heard anything to believe otherwise.

Per the Une Annee membership email a couple weeks ago it is brewery only.

Man Cassian Sunset was so disappointing when I had it. If you haven't had it I would probably not stress about finding it.

Specifically this year's release or have you always felt that way about it?

I drain poured the last one I had. I bought a 4 pack last year, and from the get go I thought it was just meh, but the one a few weeks ago was terrible to my palate. Just as well...I don't need another beer to chase down.

I've also shared it with others and got similar "meh" responses.

I had one for the first time a few weeks ago thanks to a trade. I gave it a 3.9 I think. I mean, it was fine, but nothing that I'd worry about. That was my response. Oh, and CW needs to thicken their beers plzkthx.

Cassian is not my favorite of CW's BA beers, but I do really enjoy it - that being said, it does not age gracefully. Its much better fresh.

This is how I feel about all their BA beers. Easy to get, priced well, and pretty good BA beers. The Choco Porter is outstanding along w/the BA stout. Cassian is the only one I havent had.

My issue has just been that they don't make me say "that's good." Instead they are just "good," if that makes sense.

To phrase it differently, I could drink one of them because it is good, and enjoy it, but I wouldn't say to myself "that's good." Plenty of 4/5 and even 3.5/5 (Blue moon as a perfect cheap example) I still say "that's good" when I drink. Just...those CW barrel beers...don't.

Yea, to each their own. Personally I love all of them and the bourbon barrel stout is outstanding, and at the price point, it can't be beat.

Founders threads are the best source I have ever found for reassuring myself that everyone has different taste buds and experiences when it comes to beer. Holy cow.
