Pardon my ignorance... is double daisy cutter a completely different beer like galactic double daisy cutter is to the base daisy cutter or just more of the same?

I ask because I do not like daisy cutter at all, but loved galactic.

    Thanks!

It's a basically an imperial strength daisy cutter (thus double). It lacks the flavor of Galactic DDC because it lacks the Galaxy hops. That being said, a galactic daisy cutter would be yummy.

I know it's a big version of daisy cutter, but I also think it brings a different profile, a little sweeter (but less than galactic), a little less floral/grassy. If you like other half acre beers, I'd definitely still recommend trying it, even if you aren't a fan of regular daisy.

NE-Hi just got added to the big north bands. If you're unfamiliar and like low-fi garage rock, I recommend checking them out.

Looks like there is a new bottled sour available in the taproom: Pennon. I haven't seen this mentioned anywhere on their social media but it's on their website. Looks like $19 a bottle

It's really nice, clean lemon and tangerine type flavors. Released early June:

Its excellent. Both sours so far have been. Best wild beers in the city and its not close.

It's amazing to me how these fly under the radar for most people. I loved both sours and Virga. Maybe it's the price point, but per oz these are priced better than most comparative sours. Glad to see them have recognition in the Paste blind taste test. I was just surprised Pennon didn't place.

I hope they continue to fly under the radar. It's nice to have them for sale for a couple weeks instead of how most of their highly anticipated iPas and stouts fly out the door. Although I'm sure over time their sour program will catch on and people will know what's good.

Looks like double daisy cutter is out now, sweet

To be honest, I assume it's 1) because they're sours (yes, they're trendy now, but not "hazy IPA" trendy) and 2) because they're more expensive for much less liquid ($20 a bottle vs. $16 for a 4-pack). This creates a higher barrier of entry for people on the fence.

But as others have said, them flying under the radar (for ONCE, for a HA release) is great for everyone here. Any beer I can pick up for more than a 24 hour window nowadays makes me really happy.

100% agree. And selfishly I hope it stays that way. But it's nice to see my favorite brewery get some recognition for beers that are very different than what they are known for. Cheers!

I totally agree with you. Had a friend of mine send me out a bottle of Virga when it was released and I was blown away. Ended up going to the taproom yesterday with a friend and we split a bottle of Pennon which I thought was equally as good if not better than Virga. Their sour program so far has been very very impressive. The price point is high but sours are not an easy beer to brew so I'm ok with paying a little bit of a higher price. However, I don't usually buy more than 1.bottle at a time though. Also, had a pour of DDC and it was delicious as usual.

LA Looks was inspired by lavish dreamscapes and sundrenched masses.

Brewed with 2row, Golden Promise, and Flaked Oats before a dressing of Galaxy, Comet, Waimea and an experimental. A tropical salve, we added pureed coconut butter at the end of the boil, for smooth, round flavor and a full bodied appeal.

The finished beer is lush but balanced, fully tropical IPA.

Is that a new beer or have they made that before for draft only? Looks vaguely familiar....

They've made it before. I had it on draft a couple of months back and thought it was way too much coconut buttery taste. It was especially pronounced as it warmed. (According to my 'scoring' I gave it 3.25/5, so I personally didn't like it that much).

It sounds interesting, but not in a way that I'm looking for. I'm generally leery of IPAs that add adjuncts (specifically fruit) because typically I want the hops to be the entire focus of the beer.

So how did Big North work last time as far as how drinks/food were handed out?
