I'll be coming in out of state (bringing my wife on her birthday - sorry ladies I'm taken) - will probably make it by 1130. Since I'll miss the calendar pages how does it work-is there another line? I'd hope that those who got calendar pages can't get back in line in front of me. Also got the OU rate for $99....are the other two breweries close (walking distance) to the hotel. Also made reservations at 9Table? Has anyone tried it?

I have buddies that ate at 9table and said it was awesome. I seem to recall them saying they were the only group there and they even partied a bit with owners since it was BYOB(?). So not a lot of specifics to add for you but sounded like it would be worthwhile checking out.

 

Any word on base VC Dark App for 2017?

Saw that. That is why I asked. It is listed as June, but no word of release yet. I get that the release calendar is not bible and things get released when they are ready. Perhaps that gray X is some sort of color code that is not listed on the .pdf?

 

Reserved a room at the last minute last night. (On my way to work, just dialed from my call history and the girl on the other end of the line did everything for me so I could concentrate on driving. It was SO rad!)

I recently had a 2014 BA Dark apparition and a 2016 BA black maple.

There was something off about both of them. I couldn't even finish the glass.

Has there been any issues with either of these beers?

 

Someone else posted regarding a BA Black maple some pages ago (like, maybe 30? It was around the time of the Appervation release as I recall).

Drink barrel aged beers fresh, otherwise face the consequences. The off flavors you were experiencing were due to your negligence.

 

Take it easy there Tom Smykowski, these beers were shipped to me blind, and I drank them within a month of receiving.

Yeah, no.

I'm OK with cellaring to a really strict degree, although I personally don't really do it. The trouble is way too many people think its OK to cellar just about anything. There are very few beers that are OK to cellar. The majority of barrel aged stouts are not OK to cellar, especially ones with adjuncts and infusions.

Trading is all around pretty detrimental to the beer market as well as the beer itself. Case in point: Lazhal getting some old beer from some dipshit trader who ended up ruining it and sending it to him, thus ripping him off.

 

You realize your first paragraph is pretty much agreeing with me right? Also, if those beers hadn't been "cellared" by the person who traded them away, but instead consumed fresh as intended by the brewer, Lazhal's situation wouldn't have been able to take place at all.

 

I know this could go back and forth forever, but we just had some more 16 BB Black Maple, Brick Kiln, Wood Ya Honey, 15 BA Dark App last week and all were perfect. Only issue I've ever had from them was a fresh Poly 2 from the brewpub that exploded on me. Other than that, everything's been dead on.

 

Do you think there will be bottles available after the calendar pages are called? I probably can't make it until noon in Saturday (coming from Pgh-have to drop kids off at inlaws, etc).

 

I seem to remember that the Oro Negro that was released last fall had very little cinnamon and pepper heat.

I wonder if that same batch or a different batch of Oro was aged for this BB Oro release.
