My homebrew club is doing a meeting focused on a new local maltster, Proximity Malt. For the meeting, a number of members, myself included, are brewing with a focus on using Proximity's product. I'm brewing an Imperial PA, using their Pale Malt, Munich and C60.

Planning a 100% Vienna Malt Vienna lager for next week. I'm just curios about how it will turn out. I've never done a 100% vienna malt.

Has anyone here? My only fear is that it comes out boring. I read a ref recently in one of George Fix's books where he recommends against it. For no other reason than it's not traditional.

I've done it (used a sprinkling of Carafa for color). Tastes good. Toasty maltiness. Just use a good grade German malt like Best or Weyermann.

Brewing what I'm calling a Tropical Tripel. Basically, something similar to a Tripel or Belgian Blonde, and then hit with a butt-load of Citra at flame out.

Not exactly August brewing, but, none the less. In October of 2014 I went to Oakshire Brewing here in Eugene and brewed up a 10 barrel batch of my American Wild Ale that took BOS in February of that same year. It aged in 3 wine and one Gin barrel for 2.5 years. It was then blended with 2 barrels of an American Wild Ale they had done, bottled, conditioned for 8 months, and is finally releasing at the Public House on Tuesday, August 8th. Been waiting for this for nearly 3 years now. Draft and bottles. May just need to crack the bottle I have at home tonight and share it with my wife.

In the middle of brewing a double IPA 75% 2row 25% pilsner with summit Centennial Citra mosaic and simcoe. Should be big. Been brewing 4-6%ers all summer so it'll be a different animal at 8-9ish

Brewed up my all-Citra NE Pale today. OG of 1.047 (expected FG of 1.012). Went heavy handed with the flaked wheat and oats on this one compared to others I have done, just as a test more so. Should really be a showcase of Citra, no doubt!

Planning to brew a clone of Stone's Imperial Russian Stout this upcoming week. New experience for me in that A) going to do my 1st 3L yeast starter, B) Using a wort chiller for the 1st time (vs. using an ice bath for the past two years). C) Using an oxygen wand/stone vs. shaking the hell outta the carboy and D) Using a brewjacket to control my wort temp vs. water bath and or leaving in air conditioned room temp.

August will be far less busy for actual brewing that July was. Last month I brewed a rauchbier, grodziskie, and amber for a keg competition this month. This month will mainly be kegging, clarifying, lagering, etc, but I did pull my Palo Santo smoked imperial brown out of the bourbon barral and I'd like to do a Vienna lager and/or a wet hop beer later this month or early next.

Just finished up what was supposed to be last weekends brew day. British IPA. Tried making some tweaks to my system to make things work better. Ended up about half a gallon over target volume but two points above target OG. SO I will take the win on the 82% efficiency this time. Next week might be my Mock/Altoberfest beer.

Today is brew day for a Festbier. 40% Pils, 30% Vienna, 30% dark Munich with 1/2oz Magnum at 60 and an ounce of some really low AA Hallertau Mittelfru at 5. W34/70 for the yeast.

Brewed up an imperial stout this afternoon, OG 1.100. Plan to use toasted coconut in the secondary. Never used coconut before. I'm thinking about 7 oz in a 3 gal batch.

Today was second time around for Averagly Perfect American Stout. 10 gallons this time around. With luck, I'll get a second batch on before August is over.

Whipped up a 2L starter on Friday of WLP Mexican Lager. Will split that to 2 more 2L starters tomorrow and crash it over the weekend. Monday will brew a El Sully inspired Mexican Lager. Haven't brewed a lager in years now, looking forward to having one on tap again.

Brewed a cream ale. Got better efficiency than I expected so it is a tad bigger (1.056) then I was expecting.

Will be picking my homegrown hops in a few weeks and brewing a harvest red ale.
