Love the enthusiasm!! And to think, you were once hesitant to join in

Nice review on the WWS, I might be a bit upset I haven't had (and might not have, depending on its distribution) a chance at it.

I drank this beer and reviewed it, then looked it up on Odyssey's website. I was totally off. They go on and on about the spicy hops. Here's my POV:

    3.83/5 rDev +2.1%
    look: 3.75 | smell: 3.75 | taste: 3.75 | feel: 4 | overall: 4

Poured into an Odyssey shaker glass.

Look: Clear light golden body under a fizzy white head, little or no lacing.

Aroma: Very sweet doughy malts, wet cereal grains, subtle lemon tart.

Taste: Just like the aroma, sweet -- soggy cereal and sweet malt bill -- but leveled by subtle dry grass hops.

Mouthfeel: Watery and light, actually perfect.

Overall: True to style and l will admit the hops are more present as it warms and lemongrass is there, one of my favorite beer flavors. More sweet than spicy but well balanced.

Mais oui of course. It's golden raisins I boiled them for about ten minutes and then into the food processor with chipotles in adobo, cilantro, garlic, salt, cumin, lime. Then I put some cabbage with apples which is why I think apples are common all over and a - how shall I say it - taste in the crispness of hops. white fruit. So that's rice on the bottom. Oh deary me! And it's so pretty. =) I think Saranac's Haus Lager Goes with this dish. I did not add anything smoky although smoky paprika and even orange would be ok with me.

    Good Morning NBS
This is the first of what I hope to be several New Oktoberfest Beer Sundays. I chose to run through a liquor store in KY on the way home from work Saturday morning to grab some fresh (non Indiana distributed) new to me Oktoberfests. I actually bought this six pack for the name.
Oktober Fuel by Braxton Brewing Co. Covington, KY
2-12oz cans packaged 7/20/17 poured into a .5L mug at fridge temp 6% ABV 20 IBU. The beer pours a bright amber color that ranges from honey to reddish brown depending on light. The head is khaki colored and short lived. Minimal lacing. Aroma is faint with maybe a hint of caramel and bread. The flavor is semisweet malt first and then a modestly bitter, earthy, spicy finish. I find it hard to describe but it works. Mouthfeel is moderately thin, with abundant carbonation and a mostly dry finish. There is a trace of soapy/oily feel in the finish but it's only noticeable if you're really looking for it. This beer lacks some malt richness & crisp finish of top shelf examples. Overall, good. This is a good try for a small newer brewery on a rough style to nail.

I think the details on an Oktoberfest really come out when you grab two from the fridge at once. These beers have to hold up to a large serving size and not fall to pieces if they start to get warm. This one stays consistent which is nice. Enjoy the new beer in your glass today BA!:beers:

-new beer today is Battery Steele Brewing's Flume, a DIPA.
The hazy to cloudy yellow-orange can pour has a thin foam cap that disapates quickly. There are pops of pineapple an pine in the nose. The taste matches the aroma and includes grapefruit and melon flavors. The body and finish are a tad thin. I like this very much and it would be a regular pick-up if available.
This is similar to Heady in taste and the brewery stop was pleasant and easy. I will be back for more.

Good morning, NBS!! A cloudy (and currently crisply cool) day here today, following a nice, moderate sunny day yesterday. The weather has made me consider a little indulgence...

Wait, I need to correct that, a little Indulgence, Cuvee Sauvage - by Brouwerij Het Anker, one of the styles under the brewery's Gouden Carolous moniker (I guess - I couldn't figure out the hierarchy of names). This is actually the second in the series to use the same name - both being cuvees. The description on the label (at least the English version):
So not only is this a cuvee of multiple beers, it is also a collaboration of sorts.

    The Het Anker base beer:
The Boon site description of its contribution is only available in Dutch :slight_frown:
I get the English label on the back (top right) showing only the English for the American market, but the printing on the label has the English as on of three languages. What I don't get is the front label that covered the completely English bottle printing :frowning:.

So, being that it is summer of '17, this beer has been in bottle for a year. Let's see how this goes...

Pours a clear amber with maybe a touch of orange thrown in. The head is white, medium to large bubbles that grow as you might expect from some Belgian beers. The head falls, but a huge amount of sea foam whiteness covers 2/3 of the top of the beer.

The nose reminds me a bit of wine with a cheese and apple plate, with a lightly funky cheese and the nice aroma of sweet/tart apple and white wine. In some whiffs, I get a little orange zest and in others, the alcohol is noted.

Taste starts with the apple at the front of the tongue, with a very noticeable but softer than expected carbonation. The sweetness is more than expected and lasts well into the taste. Thankfully this dulls slightly as the beer warms. The light funkiness in the nose is missing, but I am guessing it manifests itself in the light tartness that comes on mid-to-late taste (that slowly moves forward with warmth). Though it has a slight strawberry aspect to it, overall it yields a Sweet-Tart sort of aspect to this beer (yes, the candy).

Reading the base beer's (Cuvee Van de Keizer Rood) reviews, this beer has similar aspects to what I read. I am not getting any specific herbal notes, but there is something I can't describe right before the beer leaves my palate after the carbonation has subsided.

This is quite tasty, but a little on the sweet side. I think I'd enjoy it a little drier, which might allow that light tartness to have a little more say.

    New Saison Sunday (Week 650)
Greetings fellow NBSers from on the ridge in Mid Hud Val, NY. Beauty day here, bright sun and pleasant temps, May do a bit of a mushroom hunt for boletes and blewitts later Now I am thoroughly enjoying another Funkwerks treat courtesy of @Wasatch. Nelson Sauvin, a saison that is hitting me in all the right places.

Beautiful lightly cloudy straw color pour with an ample topper of pure white foam that relaxes finally to a lasting cap. Beautiful look for a saison.

Mmm, overripe fruit and spicy funk with floral and rounded tart. Doughy sweet backs it all up. Alluring bouquet for sure.

The overripe fruit of the aroma is expressed as white wine in the taste, and it leads a parade of deliciousness. Light earthy funk , with some peppery spice, and crisp sweet grain hold hands with doughy tart notes that are balanced well. End of sip is a vinous and dry bitter and pepper.

Highly viscous and thick for style, but very refreshing character somehow also achieved. Killer finish that is a clean as a whistle, bright linger with amazing complexity.

Another delicious saison from Funkwerks that is a joy to drink. Highly recommended.

Hope you also have a Great American Beer in your glass. Cheers!

Happy New Is This Beer? Sunday (Week 650)!

I had broached the question of adding a questionable product to this site earlier in the week & was met with a succinct reply of "No.", referencing the " How to Add Beers on BeerAdvocate" section of the site & I keep coming back to "Not Allowed[:] Adding the following will result in the listing and any related content to be deleted without warning[:] Anything that's not a beer. Examples: cider, meads, sakes, unfermented beverages.[;] Beers that were doctored post-production. Examples: blended/infused beers." Good to know. Fair dinkum.

Unlike lordoftheweins' pal, Jerry, I play by the rules, albeit by edging right up against them & seeing just how fluid/flexible they may be, but above board & I will readily cop to wrongdoing. That is why I get hurt when others take umbrage at my questions & challenges. I was out in the open & I still got (semi-)vilified. Oh well, c'est la guerre.

My opening salvo of the day was a monstrous 25-fl. oz. CAN that, if it had not been "doctored post-production", then I would like to meet the Dr. Frankenstein who naturally created:
    https://www.beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/29/237193/?ba=woodychandler#review
    [IMG]
Even the CAN cops to "artificial color", which must have been infused. The slope becomes quickly slippy when you CANsider Not Your Father's/Mother's "beers" and other examples.

In the interim, I shall have another "beer": https://www.beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/29/270941/?ba=woodychandler#review

Oh my. This was harsh & no bueno. It was actually evocative of Minhas "beers". I CANnot CANtinue. I am going to go have a lie-down before seCANd shift as a result. Peace aht, babies!

Lots of green, unripe fruit, citrus pith, and tacky bitterness shellacking the palate from floor to ceiling... Medium-weight, softly carbonated, and smooth... An almost vegetal finish - or is that my imagination? Another winner from the local masters at Other Half...

I've gotten apple flavors from beers before, but have always attributed it to the yeast.

    A riddle:
Q: What do you call someone who only speaks one language?
    A: An AmeriCAN!

Sure, it is a stereotype, but while in the navy, I picked up smatterings of many different languages. Heck, I served with people who could barely speak English, let alone anything else.

They may not have been thinking of AmeriCANs as their primary market & so the labeling became an afterthought. Granted, Dutch & Flemish still elude me, but if it is of French origin, I CAN (usually) parse it out in reading it. They probably put on a label for export without a lot of aforethought.
