Ha! I thought of making that point about only knowing one language with me as the butt of it. Though maybe the label was there because the English version on the bottle was 3rd of 3 - also defined as "last." :astonished:

We can't have that, now, CAN we?

    :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

(Also, the font is quite small on the bottle)

Good morning NBSers thanks to @lordofthewiens for getting us going. I have not been around the last 2 weeks due to traveling for work but the beer I am having today was one I picked up while in Pennsylvania this past week and it has been one I have been wanting to try for some time. Saugatuck Neapolitan Milk Stout, clocking in at 6% and bottled on 1/11/17. I am slightly disappointed but maybe it is my fault for expecting this to be more than what it is.The aroma comes through with the expected berry, chocolate and vanilla but I just never got much in the taste as far as the berry or vanilla. It is still a nice stout just a touch thin but again sometimes I find myself overly critical of a beer when maybe my expectations were too high. Hope everyone has a great Sunday!!

Appearance 3.75 - Pours thin black with thin light tan head that quickly dissipates to a small ring.

Aroma 4 - The aroma is a pretty balanced smell of dark chocolate, strawberry and a very mild vanilla. There is also a mild maple and some roasted malts.

Taste 3.75 - The taste is similar to the aroma but I am getting less strawberry and vanilla. There is a nice chocolate and roasted malt flavor combined with a bitterness on the finish.

Feel 3.75 - Thin for a stout, mild carbonation pretty dry bitter finish.

Overall 3.81 - The aroma was promising but I am just not getting very much strawberry or vanilla in the flavor.

A: A very nice amber color with a slight head.
S: Belgian ale written all over it.
T: The taste follows the aroma with a very good very good Belgian ale flavor.
M: Refreshing, light, clean, crisp, good carbonation and pairs well with any type of food.
O: A very well balanced Belgian ale!

Had exactly same experience after being gifted two bottles a couple years back. I too expected more after the person who gave me the bottles raved about the beer.

Finally joining in again! I plan on partaking in serious fashion, too. Starting off big with Marshal Zhukov.

"Pair Marshal Zhukov with Mushroom Solyanka, dark chocolate, cherries and ground wars in Russia."

My goodness, what a beer! Immediately up there for me with the other benchmarks of the RIS style: Ten Fidy, Founders Imperial Stout, Old Rasputin. In fact, if the latter had a modern day successor, Zhukov makes a pretty strong claim to the title.

Every aspect is superb and absolutely dialed in: incredible appearance; deep, inviting, and slightly intimidating nose; thick and creamy feel bordering on chewy; and a wealth of classic RIS flavors perfectly integrated.

Flavors that come to mind: massive amounts of roasted barley (a la DFH WWS), red grapes, bitter chocolate, and a nutty char on the finish. More details in the review below.

I may adjust my review down a touch, as my first impression is undoubtedly slanting my ratings upward. Then again, I may not.

Beer rating #600 for me. This is a sour altbier from The Monarchy in Germany. Poured from fridge temp. Pours a dark brown - almost black. Good carbonation and bubbles lingered on the wall of the glass for quite some time. Smell is wood, bread, faint licorice, faint tobacco, and smoky malts. Taste follows the nose, but with more smoke. Still getting licorice and bread, but now getting a faint hint of dark fruit - cherries and raspberries. Overall, not really too sour or sweet. Pretty smooth, with a nice blend of flavors. They almost appear to combat each other and mellow things out. Alcohol is not present, despite the 10% ABV. Mouthfeel is really nice - thick and creamy. Lingers for a while. I am really happy to try this one. Overall, a great beer. Very smooth!

Happy NBS! Honestly it feels like a holiday each and every week with the present of a new beer.

For a second I almost thought I was on the wrong board and posting about a new craft cola as there seem to be more and more of those making local small batch stuff as well. Today I'm continuing my work through the Voodoo pack I started last Sunday. I'll let my review speak for itself but this is a beer that I actually liked far better than my score might imply, as I hope my note conveys. Cheers!

12oz bottle poured into a pint glass
A: Looks just like cola. A thin fizzy head that disappears in a flash matches
S: There's definitely coffee there, lots of brown malt but I keep getting something cola-esque throughout
T: This is unique. I kind of like it. It's like a spinwheel of coffee-Coke-Pepsi-Dr Pepper-brown malt over and over with some of the notes of each of those brown sodas
M: Thin, carbonated, what's the theme again?
O: I don't love this but I would definitely drink it again since it goes down easy and would be great to drink when watching a game or with friends when beer isn't the focus

Happy NBS crew! Plenty of excitement in my neck of the woods. We adopted our third dog, a 5 month old hound mix. He is a delightful pup and is energizing our two older dogs 8 and 9. He even had a beer related name, Barley.

I just took all three for a nice walk and am now looking forward to some lunch and a new beer. Today's offering is from Central Waters and is a flavored IPA.

Caught in the Rain (can you guess the flavors?) pours a cloudy golden color with a nice 2 finger white head. It dissipates moderately and a ring lingers around the glass with lacing noticeable along the sides of the glass. Bitter and slight floral hop notes with prominent noted of crushed pineapple and hints of coconut along with a touch of sweet malt. It starts off with some bitter pine hops and citrus followed by a touch of sweet caramel from the malts. The finish is heavy with pineapple and a lingering flavor of coconut. Nice carbonation and a slightly resinous mouthfeel. Kind of sticky and dry afterwards. This was fun and quite enjoyable as a flavored IPA.

Chettie was a choice of mine for a long time when I was living in PA. Skunking was a problem, but still this is such an easy drinking beer!

    I wholeheartedly agree!
I have had WWS in previous years and I did not really feet it, but this year's edition was superb!
I will be going to Dogfish within a week, and I will be sure to stock up on it!
I agree no heavy machinery afterwards! :grinning:

    Howdy, NBSers!

Summer wages on here in the Brazos Valley, and the heat has driven me indoors and off the golf course the last couple weeks. @lordofthewiens' opening reminds me of too many golf stories to recall, most of them of this variety:
That's me on the tee box of the 54th hole of the 1998 Brazos Valley Open. I'd had enough of my old TaylorMade Burner driver and chose that finishing position after ripping it down the middle of the 18th fairway for my third shot (lost ball) at the old Texas A&M campus course. It's not the only time a club of mine magically grew into two pieces, though that hasn't happened in years. In my old age I find my temper only reaches about the mid 8.0s instead of the perfect 10.0 shown above.

Most of my favorite golf stories involve other peoples' anger. It's always funnier watching somebody else toss a club into a tree and getting it stuck up there ... or helicoptering their 3-wood into the middle of a pond ... or throwing their entire golf bag into a lake ... than actually doing something so stupid yourself. :stuck_out_tongue: If I get to another beer today, I might tell one of the better of those stories.

    For now, here's a beer:
Cycler's Brewing Palmares, a Russian imperial stout
    [IMG]
A gusher of sorts ... here's the result of the first half-second of the original pour:
Fortunately I was able to cut short that fiasco. :grimacing: A very gentle pour down the side of the glass rendered only a finger of head, so the bomber ended up drinking just fine, but the sucker is definitely well-carbonated.

    The review:
    https://www.beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/30162/103562/?ba=Premo88#review
    3.84 (-4.2% rDev)

Not a world-beater, Palmares shows plenty of promise in the nose with hints of sweet chocolate tucked into a strong wall of other dark-malt aroma notes, including espresso and molasses and maybe a pinch of raisin. But few of those notes show up in the flavor, and when they do they're relatively faint, suppressed by a massive earthiness and bitter bite. That bite seems like it's coming from hops, almost floral at times and sharp like you get in West Coast-style RISs. As it warms and your palate adjusts, the beer does sort of smooth out into a drinkable oak wood/charred wood flavor with some ... let's say "almost sweetness" similar to a strong red wine, but overall it's a hefty load to carry.

Cycler's makes a "Scotch-Porter" that I loved, for it's both super sweet and backed by plenty of earthy complexity. This RIS is about 9 parts earthy complexity to 1 part sharp espresso.

Hope you got/get a good one in your glass today!

    Cheers!

G' afternoon NBS-ers! Hope everyone has been having a great weekend as mine has been quite busy and now it's time to kick back and relax with a new beer.
Also, I'm quite happy to be part of the latest BIF, #6 the Roadrunner edition!

So today's entry is from a Florida brewery from Delray Beach.
    Saltwater Brewery Screemin' Reels IPA
    [IMG]
Poured from a 12 oz. can into a Snorkel glass. Canned on date 7/10/17.

Appearance: Tangerine gold body with a full fingers head that leaves decent islands of lacing in the glass.

Aroma: Picking up on some bitter lemon, orange and grapefruit. Lightly aromatic grassy hops.

Taste/Mouthfeel: I get plenty of lemon and sour peach juiciness up front followed by a TON of bitterness. I haven't had something this bitter in a long time! Not getting a lot of the "tropical" flavors promised on the can, but it's definitely bitter. A nice medium mouthfeel without a heaviness at all.

Overall: A decent IPA, one of those bitter one's that you really want every once in a while. It won't be too hard to take this 6 pack down in the coming days!

    Cheers!
