Honestly, there is considerably more competition in the style near Tree House than there is here.

Agree with this so much, Tired Hands to me is without a doubt quality before hype to me. Monkish I hear is quality, but those monkish guys (the fanboys) are worse than TreeHouse fanboys. They want like 3 cans for every 1 of theirs. I'm sorry, beer is never that good for such a lopslided trade.

Haha my brother is out in L.A. and he trades and he won't trade 1 Monkish for 1 Tree House.

Nearer to TH than if Corridor, FR, TH and TR were all here in the city?

In fairness, I don't know the Boston-area at all, so it's certainly possible there are plenty of good breweries there I've just never heard of.

No, definitely not that close. But that's exactly my point. Tree House sells what, 4,000 cases per week and they're an hour outside of Boston. Think about how many people are driving at least an hour just to get their beer. If you put that place inside a big city, it would be out of control.

Think about it, if you know you have to drive at least an hour to get beer, you probably have quite a few options that are as close or closer than that, and they still move that much beer every single week. It's mind-blowing.

If you live a little north of Boston, Bissell Brothers is closer. If you live a little south, Tilted Barn is closer. If you live in Boston, Trillium is closer.

Honestly, the level Tree House (and to a lesser degree, Trillium) is at is insane.

I'd agree here, but the amount of people on this thread/in this forum that do that shit already blows my mind, so the TH/TR situation doesn't do much to surprise me at this point. I'm definitely a "well, that's 10 minutes away walking, so I'll go there instead of an hour drive + wait time" person, but clearly I'm in the minority here, given that I'm not making trips to More, RAM, Transient, Miker, Noon Whistle, etc. etc. etc..

With that in mind, please everyone save me ONE crowler of Pulp Hogan for Friday! It's my 10 minute away (well, maybe 20) place.

Absolutely. The idea of trading one can for 3 is ridiculous but that is what some people can get for it. I always try to trade to people for face value but then I don't trade very much. I haven't bothered with Monkish cans because now their IPAs for growler fills stick around for a week to week and a half and it is easier to just stop by and do a few growler fills if I happen to be in the area.

It will be interesting to see how Tree House changes now that they have their new facility open. Before you were lucky to get a few cans and now I understand they have things on tap more regularly. Too bad my last visit was just a few months before they opened the new facility.

Have you guys had TH from the new brewery yet? I had 3 different ones from late July and they were extremely malty. Not what I remember TH being at all.

They taste exactly the same to me. Had 6 Julius from July this past weekend and they all tasted fantastic.

The Tree House thread hasn't had many complaints about the new brewery either.

The last few pages of this thread have been annoying, if I'm being frank.

I don't give a damn about tree house, trillium, monkish, and the rest of them.

I've been afforded the opportunity to try most of these hyped breweries over the last 2 years.

They are all delicious, but when I look at the current state of Chicago beer, I can EASILY say there is no reason to waste your money trading for "better beers"

That is unless you are one of those guys who has to drink the ABSOLUTE best beer on the world... and in that case, why are you drinking IPAs?

Now I'll post what I came here to post.

The lastest batch of Cirrus (8/4) is pretty flawless.

As I've said before, the clean finish is the ultimate test in my books, and Hailstorm has nailed it with this batch of Cirrus.

It not only has nailed the finish, but all the boys and girls searching for full bodied IPAs, will love this batch of Cirrus.

Cirrus is very nice, the only improvement I'd suggest would be a more explosive aroma to get the approval of nerds, but for 10.99, I'd be shocked if anyone complained about the value of this beer.

Bottom line: The 8/4 batch of Cirrus won't be a waste of money. Good beer for 10.99

I think I may have seen it at Mokena Binny's, but I didn't check the date on the cans. Hell at that point the brewery is only 5 - 10 minutes from there.

Haven't seen a new batch of Cirrus around. I saw a batch of Nimbus though. Bought a 4 pack. It's ok. Very much like a regular ol' session IPA, nothing very NE about it.

If you think Cirrus is as good as Julius and there's no reason to trade, good for you.

This thread isn't just for locals. People from out of town come here to check on our scene for when they visit, or just in general. Having comparisons or points of reference for them is not unreasonable.

Yep, and how long it takes someone to drive to get a beer should be discussed and debated for pages.....ya know, for the out-of-towners
