NEIPAs aren't going to squeeze out every other style in and of themselves, which is not what I said to begin with.

They are, however, part and parcel of the whole juicing of legitimate IPA and wholly responsible for people's mistargeted judgement against real IPA.

What might be misguided is these breweries juicing the IPA to try to approximate an NEIPA in hopes to steal some sales away from those hyped breweries.

Two that are supposedly doing NEIPAs are Platform and Listermann. Both are misfiring.

I've had Platform's Mosaic Mist and Amarillo Fog. Both advertised as NEIPA on the can. Neither is a NEIPA. Both were good to very good beers, nothing about them was NEIPA though.

The Listermann attempts I've had were marketed as NEIPAs and were not. They were also bad, poor tasting beers (IMO).

The two HoofHearted NEIPAs I've had did present as NEIPAs...and they were delicious.

So years back when someone who was new to craft beer said they just liked the simple wheat beers it was acceptable and encourage to suggest they try to branch out and try new stuff.

Today, however, when new drinkers say they like NEIPAs offering them alternatives makes you a trrrrrollolol.

Apples to oranges, which you obviously know.

Your example: "Hey if you like that wheat beer, you should also give this a try. It's a bit different, but I think you may also like it"

What you're saying "Why on Earth would you drink an NEIPA, ewww it's not a godly Fatheads IPA, ewwww hazy swill garbage drinking idiots"

    See the difference?

Even if that were a direct quote you still wouldn't have a point.

I know a lot of you think NEIPA and slap-dash kettle sours are the height of craft beer, so suggesting anything else would be requesting someone take a step or two down.

Literally no one thinks this. You've created a straw-boogieman to justify your snobbery. The vast of majority of us recognize these styles for what they are, quick and easy to brew, often delicious beercandy. Why does everything have to be a puritylaw brewed kolsch or dobblebock or oak aged saison to be worthy of existence? Self serious beersnobs like you are why goofy, experimental breweries like Hoof, Tired Hands, Veil, etc exist. And craft beer in general is better for it, so thanks! A rising tide lifts all boats.

Went to HiHo on Saturday. It was a pretty cool place, but the hazy IPA was a miss in my opinion.

I thought Amarillo Fog from Platform was an outstanding beer, and a good example of a NE "style" IPA. At least what I consider an example. The way they used to be made, with a significant hop profile.

I think what he meant was that the smaller guys (like Urban Artifact) who are making a variety of styles could be left at the station if they don't get on the smoothie train. Eventually leaving us with a bunch of Miller, Coors, AB. Or in this case, Hoof Hearteds.

Rhinegeist released a collaboration with Pipeworks, a hazy IPA that is solid; Astro Dwarf.

I agree that Amarillo Fog is a really good IPA. I just didn't recognize any of the attributes of the current NEIPA trends...not that they denote quality for my personal tastes.

Is it fair to say you see it more closely related to the earlier iterations of NEIPAs (Heady, Sip of Sunshine, etc.) as opposed to the hazy-juice variety?

Exactly. Those are 2 great examples of what I think a NE IPA is. SoS is still one of my favorite beers.

Toppling Goliath makes some of my favorite IPAs and they're all hazy af. None of them are considered NEIPAs.

Anyway OP, if you're having trouble finding Hoof cans, it will probably be easier to obtain some Old Nation IPAs at this point since they're pumping out M43 like it's going out of style and all your weird neighbors probably have an overwhelming trade stash of it in their garages by now.

What area are you in, anyway?

Best beer I've had from Rhinegeist. I also love how everyone is bitching that it's not NE IPA when it says on the can Hazy.

I really liked Entropic Theory too; I still run across some around Columbus and I need to grab it.

It was probably the first Rhinegeist beer I've liked but I don't see it as being NE IPA. It's a little hazy but hazy doesn't mean NE IPA.

Mosaic Mist was actually the BEST of their NE IPA attempts. Actually I did like it. The rest I thought were very sub par. I had a couple Listermann's that I thought were decent.

    Mosaic Mist was Platform though.
