Since they are failing miserably at both, what real difference does it make?

Your point is well taken as pure capitalism and business ethics are certainly at odds. However, to say that no company is completely ethical is a stretch. They may not be perfect, but they can certainly be ethical.

I've been there 3-4 times when the first opened. I lived in billings for 6 months, grew up in the Bozeman area in Belgrade. They will definitely increase production, but probably not for another year possibly, is my guess.

It isn't necessarily, but I can see how you can have that view if you only see black and white.

As it pertains to the topic of being in support of, or against big beer involvement in craft, there seem to only be black & white opinions abound. Perhaps I'm wrong, but I haven't seen much, if any indifference on the matter.

Actually, there's TONS of indifference on it. Lots of people "don't care" if ABI is involved in their brewery or in craft beer. What you don't see is a lot of people saying "HELL YEAH! ABI's buying breweries. 'Bout gaddam time!"

Actually you've seen a lot of it. The indifferent folks don't bother to even comment in such threads as this one and they vastly outnumber those who are in support or against.

When I sold Ballast Point in the 00s, I brought in their bloody mary mix and loved it! Very good product and easy to sell. But, in general, all Ballast Point products cost more at every level than they were worth. They were smart people for sure.

You're probably right, but if they don't post, we don't see it.

I'm pretty sure you meet the criteria of indifferent by calling everyone who disagrees with you stupid and stating that "it's just beer."

You must be kidding me. I move my ass to the South, and one of the only regional breweries I can access immediately sells out.

That's it: I can't retire in Vermont now. I'm afraid I would curse Hill Farmstead. :grimacing:

The majority of the people who purchase craft beer are not members of BA.

BA is often an 'echo chamber' of the beer geek segment (a small segment) of the overall craft beer consumer market.

    Cheers!

The phrase small but mighty comes to mind. At least brewers are reading the posts here for what that's worth.

I was referring to indifference here amongst the nerds.

If there's one thing I'm not, it's indifferent. I am firmly against people boycotting any brewery that sells to a bigger brewery or private equity firm for the reason of "it's not longer independent", or "because it's corporate".

I feel that I can have that stance, and still understand that others are entitled to their opinions.

I like Darwin and Calusa the best in the Sarasota area. Cycle and Rapp in the St. Pete area. Cigar City, Coppertail, and AC among the ones in Tampa. Definitely a lot of great choices around here. But I still like FB the best.

We respect the decision of Beer Advocate and the brothers. We are disappointed, but we get it. Bottom line is that they have set a criteria and because of a choice that we made, we no longer fit into it. We still maintain that it is one of, if not THE, best run fests in the country! We will attend as fans, as we were before we ever had a brewery, and now have more time to eat waffles and drink great beers.

That being said, we are vindictive owners and we will be starting our event entitled Extremest Beer Fest that will occur the weekend before and weekend after the regularly scheduled EBF. You can read about it on our new site, superbeeradvocate.com
