64 oz is still the same price as a 4 pk. My guess is that the biggest cost of doing growlers is time and the 32oz price reflects that.

Hopefully that goes away soon now that they're doing growlers in a different line.

(It's kind of a kick in the balls to locals. Rabble rabble.)

I hate increased prices as much as the next normal human being, but that's a ubiquitous practice for any business which expands their store. Gotta recoup those investment losses asap.

So what's a 32oz fill now, like 14/16? They used to be about 10/12, right? I filled two opening day but also got two tastes, remember thinking total price was higher but didn't verify.

I'm a little surprised at the praise for Green Power. It tastes exactly like trader Joe's dried mango to me. It's good and different but I don't love it.

I'm sorry but there's no justification on the 32oz growlers. Adding a buck here or there to cover additional costs is one thing but never seen anywhere else do this. It's BS.

Anyone finding that the last batch of DDH Mylar is tasting off? Can't quite put my finger on it, but I'm about 2 sips in right now and about to pour the rest out.

I'm actually drinking the same thing right now and mine tastes fine. I only wish it was Broccoli instead.

Read 5 posts prior...most singles went from 10 to 14. Doubles went from 12 to 16.

I'm sure 32oz is the most popular size which is the reason for raising (again, people need to recognize they are in the business to make money). 64oz is only $2 more per growler (technically a good value) so I guess they just want to make us all pay the premium or just become serious alcoholics...:stuck_out_tongue:

I think everyone is aware they're a business and there to make money. That argument has been made by many people countless times in response to posts complaining about things like the fact they sell full cases when demand outstrips the need, or announcing releases on social media when that makes buying cans such a shitshow vs a silent release.

But on the pricing side - their prices are already....well they're hardly bargain basement. Adding a buck to pours is just ok. Doing the same to growlers would probably be ok too. But adding $4 to 32oz growlers, to make them almost the same price as their 64oz counterpart is not remotely ok. As with most places in the city (brewery or store) that sell growlers, 32oz were already being sold at a premium.

The longstanding argument made to those (generally "local" fans) who get irritated by the case limits is, "well at least you can walk straight in that day and get a few growler fills". Obviously cans are more convenient than a 32oz growler, but most of us struggled through the hardship of drinking the equivalent of two cans at a time. Now the choice is either drink the equivalent of four cans at once, or pay $16/$14 for a 32oz growler when two cans of the same beer would cost $10/$9 - that's total nonsense.

What next - sell cases for $120 but if anyone wants to "break" a case and buy by the 4-pack then its $30/4-pack? Would that be reasonable? I mean they're running a business and they need to cover the cost of that canning line right?

I've loved the previous DDH Mylar batches. The one I had two nights ago I really didn't like; not oxidized but harsher flavor profile, much fewer highlights to me... I remember being amazed as 6 months ago I would have put it among my favorites

The last growlers I got in the old tap room were 32's of DDH cabbage ($14) and crystal waves ($10.) Picked up some DDH galaxy last night for $14, but saw Cabbage was still at $14.

Really strange growler pricing for sure. I guess if people looked at it from the standpoint that the 64 ounce is "discounted" compared to the 32 it is a good deal, but no one looks at it that way. I never buy 64 ounce growlers anywhere, 32 is perfect, sometimes I will buy two 32 for multiple sittings, but I certainly can't drink a 64 by myself.

Seems like industry standard to charge 1/2 of the 64 price + a couple of $ for the 32 oz size. I never understood that, the reasoning of lost beer filling a 32 doesn't seem to equate to anything more than pennies. To me, should be 1/2, but there is probably a counterpoint argument of volume pricing.

OH has adjusted pricing before for the better, hopefully they do that in this case.

A bit off topic but related, I am in LA and there is a restaurant here that only charges $20 for a bottle of Russian River Supplication, retail at stores it is around $15, $5 bump up to consume at a restaurant is amazing pricing.

I was really only excited for the new taproom so I could get a couple 32oz fills without having to line up out the door, now they raise their 32 oz prices.

And if this is because they need to make back money from this new taproom, you would think by all the stupid merchandise they've been selling that they would have made it all back by now lol

I don't think any other product I enjoy fluctuates in price as much as OH beers. Not gonna stop me from drinking them of course.

This exactly. Hadn't been for a long time and was excited about getting a nice 32oz growler and cans mid-week. Haven't been on a Saturday since single hop Citra & Nelson release prob 2 years ago.

If I remember correctly growler prices went up and then they lowered them not too long ago, which was great. Now everything is raised again. I guess they are turning into Trillium. Next thing you know we will be paying $20 for ddh pale ales and $20 plus for ddh ipas and.....oh wait, damn....it already happened.

Careful what you wish for. Oh well.

I completely understand charging more for a 32oz growler than a 64oz, especially for a place that can be inundated with people waiting to fill growlers. The additional cost is to dissuade people from getting multiple 32oz growlers, which equals double the effort to fill.

As far as the actual cost, I think it's reasonable that a 64oz fill costs the same as what a 4-pack of that beer would be. Then, the 32oz would be the same cost per ounce plus a 25-30% premium. So for a growler that's priced $18 for a 64oz fill, a 32oz fill should run $12 or so.
