Way better than I expected, this sucker is a great beer. Loads of bourbon flavors and very rounded. Not what I expected this was a great version of the style.

I strongly suggest you buy a single if possible, as it is quite polarizing. I thought it tasted like Bud with corn liquor added. It wasn't horrible, and I would drink one if it were handed to me, but I won't buy any more.

No I give it better than that. At 14% found it incredibly smooth, and a great showcase for the barrel. It is what I would call a bourbon persons beer. Not much in the base to get in the way of the barrel

Yup, polarizing. But we do agree it's more about the barrel than the base beer. At least with KBS, CBS, and BWB there is a decent base beer to do it's part.

I would just say that will all of the discussion on this beer, I give kudos to Founders for innovative creation of new beers, much like Dogfish Head. Polarizing beers? Yep. But in a world of copycat IPA's, etc. why not??

I just can't help but thinking that those barrels could have been put to better use in making a better BA beer or increasing production of the other Founders BA beers than have proven stellar. How about a BA Raspberry stout - that would have to be better than DKML. Or a BA Quad.

All good ideas. Why not submit them to Founders? They seem to be quite responsive to communication from the public.

I actually think Founders did a good job on this beer. Yes it is different but that is what makes it cool. It is way out of the ordinary and using a style most will not drink. I enjoyed it as a one off beer and I think that was their goal so cheers to them for pulling this off. I am sure the next item will be just as fun to try.

The remaining two this year will be good, since they are the highly rated Backwoods Bastard (BWB) and Canadian Breakfast Stout (CBS).

Looking forward to both of them. On an off topic any of you guys like the Barrel Aged stuff from Modern Times? I see it around but over $30 a bottle, curious how good they are, their normal beer is good.
    Cheers

Founders Brewing Co. is rereleasing versions of not one, not two, but three different beers as part of its most popular series.

The Grand Rapid, Mich.-based brewery will be adding Bolt Cutter, Project Pam and Sweet Repute to its Barrel-Aged Series, which was formally named the Backstage Series and is made up of beers aged in various types of barrels.

Not sure when these will come out or how this relates to a possible CBS release as Barrel Aged Series #6.

They're really good, well worth $30 a bomber.

Since Pam and Sweet Repute both use maple barrels, hopefully they don't drop or skimp on CBS.

Didn't seem to get a lot of love, but I loved Sweet Repute. Still have one left that I'm excited to crack open this December on it's 4th Anniversary!

Just for clarity, this is the stage for CBS:

KBS (i.e. Whatever the base is into BBA barrels)
KBS comes out, and those barrels go to Maple
Maple comes out and those barrels go back to founders
Founders puts whatever the base is for CBS in.
Then CBS comes out as CBS.

I'm not familiar with the others that you mentioned, but it has not been clear to me that any other beer uses the KBS-Maple barrels except CBS. Others just use BBA-Maple barrels (I thought).

Wish Oregon didn't have antiquated beer laws revolving around Malt Liquor... Founders wasn't allowed to send it here due to the classification of the beverage and the ABV.

Where can I get KBS barrel aged maple syrup? That sounds great!
