Dang, I wish I could agree. I religiously voted for Pineapple Pilsner as many time as I was allowed, and was disappointed when I got 5 on it won. That being said I enjoyed I got 5 on it. It wasn't great, but is a good solid IPA. However, Pineapple Pilsner has been a disappointment to me.

Yeah, I was disappointed in the latest variety pack. I was really looking forward to it.
The Spruce is not as good and the black lager and the pineapple just not good at all to me.
Now, the Czech Pilsner is great. I would buy a 12 pack of that!

I have never had Pineapple Pilsner before this last batch but after all the hype had to get some (Pilsners are not a style I seek) and I must agree that it was a disappointment. I had an expectation for a smooth cohesive blend with the fruit and Pilsner style but just didn't quite meet my expectations (albeit hyped by social media)

I too was disappointed with the pineapple pilsner. I was expecting clear golden pineapple joy instead received overly sweet thick cloudy dissatisfaction. I didn't think the beer tasted anything like what the bottle described but rather like a Long Island ice tea but sweeter. If Shorts had called the beer "Sweet tea" this I would be saying they knocked this one out of the park.

Anyone know if any cans of PCG made it to Chicago? Or bottles that are still around? Thanks

    Interesting....

From Short's Twitter feed. No other information besides "Coming Soon" and the tag #CANpagne

Is this champagne in a can? Or is Short's making its own Champagne of Beers? Will Christopher Walken be the spokesman?

Picked up the variety pk in Grayling. The speedcult black lager was superb. Czech pils was also excellent. Spruce Pils has never been my cup of tea. Pineapple Pils was def. not enjoyable for me personally either. Worth a try but too much. Little more subtle and its a home run? Maybe.

Variety packs are a little like cable/satellite packages. Sure you get a few things you want, but you also get a bunch of stuff that you don't need and will probably almost never use.

Haha very good analogy. Gotta be hard being shorts with hundreds of beers and trying to please everyone tho. I sometimes catch myself complaining but they really do care/listen to their supporters.

I Love Shorts (most of the time). I rant because I care (and want certain specific things).

Except for the DIPA Hoppy Christmas pack from last year. That was the best variety pack ever. Hope we see it again!

I hope they do it with different hoppy beers..like Raisin Apollo and Hellacious Rock. Shorts makes so many great hoppy beers they could do a different one every year.

I do like variety packs that have a theme to tie them together, like the Hoppy Holidays and the Pilsner pack (although I would have made a couple substitutions in that one). A Belgian variety anchored by PGGB, with maybe Van Dammage or Ectoplasmo would be something I'd snap up, but it ain't happening. Belgians don't have a big enough demand, I think.

What would be a nice surprise is a variety pack with Imperial series ales, especially since we've recently seen Publican, Spruce, and Aorta, and Bloody, Black Cherry, and Woodmaster are on the way. I'd put Good Feller, Carob, Peaches, and Abnormal Genius together. (Can't stand Ginger in the Rye, and while I haven't had Black Licorice, anise isn't something I enjoy )

For the 2nd straight year, I found Psychedelic Cat Grass to be nearly undrinkable; bitter, cloying & reminiscent of cat piss on a carpet. Honestly, I find it be the end conclusion of the west coast IPA ideal -- which reminds me why, despite the grotesque hype, I edged towards the New England style in the first place.

I'm neither a Short's fan-boy nor hater (I think Exeter rocks & Freedom of 78 sucks, for example) but if you remove the novelty of the release you've got an argument against a pine bomb with a massive "malt backbone" in a bottle/can/keg.

It just goes to show you how individual tastes vary. I loved Cat Grass, and would drink a hundred of them before I would ever touch another M-43.

I couldn't like this post enough. M43 is really overrated for me.

Perhaps the Citra is pulling your nose that way?

Really curious if you have had anything from Russian River? Put a bottle of Pliny and Sosus in front of me, and I would have a hard time picking which one to pour first.....

I get this exact feeling on quite a few Short's IPA.
