I haven't had PTE on draft in over 10 years, when it was the pinnacle of beer consumption to me. My last bottle was a month ago, and it was pretty 'meh' compared to what I regularly consume these days. Palate = shifted.

Ok, well to close this can of worms I inadvertently opened, I simply was expecting a typical juicy OH NEIPA, and because the taste wasn't what I expected, the can seemed "off". I do very much enjoy West Coast IPAs. Obviously with this newfound knowledge and my three remaining AGE cans, I can rejudge accordingly.

Looking forward to doing a blind tasting of this AGE with one canned on 1/12/17.

They changed the way they hop AGE a few batches ago if I remember correctly. Don't remember how, maybe lupe powder or something

just a friendly reminder from the bottom of a past AGE can which warns us "Do Not A.G.E."

(although considering what people do with 120 minute ipas, 7 months doesn't seem too drastic)

    looking forward to your findings.

I've still got cans of 3rd Anniversary, going to do a vertical in the future for science.

Geez if only brewers were also somewhat scientists and had recommendations on the aging of IPA's. what's with the war on fresh hops? You guys ever hear of barleywines?

Well more power to you. You do you. You would love European ipas.

I think that can is hilarious, because I and a friend both had cans from that specific batch between 3-8 months old and both were far better than fresh. That beer is best aged, to me.

What's wrong with drinking an IPA with some age on it?

Do we really need to go through our supply within 3 weeks? I personally enjoy beers at 4-5 even 6

I'm so confused with this conversation about aged IPAs and oxidized AGE.

The IPA world is all upside down.

A new OH release at 8/8.5% I have one that weekend and let the rest sit for at least 3 weeks. Unless it's crazy delicious out of the gate I go through it quick.

I honestly have no opinion on AGEing since I've never tried it. I will say I've had some moderate flavor fall offs with a few OH IPAs after 4-5 weeks (the motueka galaxy comes to mind). I also don't stock a lot in my fridge and tend to get to it all fairly quickly.

But I will say when I saw that printed at the bottom of the can, I took it literally. Maybe I shouldn't have?

Did they change their Fri hours? Their site says 3 but everything else says 5

Yeah, I've found that most ipas with a strong fruity hop flavor (usually something 8% and up) only get fruiter as they get older. When I come across a beer like that I usually stash them in the fridge for a month(if I can help it).

It can be a gamble though. They don't all get better. Sometimes it's better to drink fresh for that more "dank/diesel/pine/bitter" flavor that fades. On the other hand recently my brother had cans of imaginary greenscapes (three months at the time) and another dose (at two months) both of which had lost all bitterness and were very sweet. I wouldn't wait that long on purpose, but it definitely goes against the idea that these beers fall off quickly.
