With bombers becoming less popular, 4 packs of 16oz cans (and 500ml bottles) are the new "bombers." It's just a change of "elite" format as the market changes. (Not that bombers or 750s have gone away though)

I'm fortunate to have a friend who travels for work and will mule me some beer. It's nice to get it on occasion but I don't HAVE to have it. Too much of that stuff these days, and a big part of why prices are in my opinion and on my budget out of control.
I like Heady, but I prefer Focal.
I guess I came up in the beer world as someone who drank for results, and I've run the gamut of really bad beer in the past. Maybe that's why I don't see anything wrong with a 14.99 12 pack of Sierra Nevada. I think a lot of people who post here began their drinking experience at trendy new breweries and have been conditioned to follow the crowd, and believe money equals quality.

@TongoRad , When I was in the Coast Guard, the cutter I was stationed on was in NYC for Opsail 2000. I spent $30.00 for a 12 pack of Budweiser to take back to Governor's Island where we were tied up. Perfect example of overpriced beer, and what one is willing to pay. I did have one hell of a time however... The next port call was New London CT. I have no idea how much I spent on beer there, I really don't remember.....

Most of us are willing pay a price that matches the value of what we are buying. And the market can correct for when the price get out of sync with what consumers are willing to pay.

I'm drinking Grey Monday tonight. I paid $33.99 for a 750ml bottle and I am happy with it and will buy the 2018 release if it is within range of this price.

Would I buy Bud light for $33.99/750 ml if such a thing existed, no.

The bottom line is if you don't like the price then don't buy it. If the market agrees the price will drop or the beer will appear.

I've bought some pretty expensive, overpriced beer in my time. If I think it's worth the money, I really don't have an issue with it. If it's overpriced and I don't think it's worth it, I'm happy drinking water or another cheaper alternative.

For example, my local liquor store (provincially run NB Liquor) got in a bunch of US craft beer, including a bunch of Bruery selections. I'm slightly ashamed to admit that I paid nearly $30 CAD for a bottle of Tart of Darkness. I'm not 100% sure that it's worth the price, but it is a great opportunity to try something that is new and exciting (at least for this area).

I'm willing to spend 15 for a sixer. 14 for 4/16oz cans. I will usually only buy lagunitas bombers since they are the only reasonably priced at 5.99 a bottle. If it's something really special like KBS, CBS, BCBS I'll go twenty since it's a special treat for me. IPAS are out of control and I can make my own for much cheaper that taste as good imho.

    Meant to say:
The bottom line is if you don't like the price then don't buy it. If the market agrees the price will drop or the beer will disappear.

(sorry for not catching the typo)

I was a wine connoisseur before getting into beer.

Even expensive beer seems cheap to me. I don't flinch at spending $40 on Black Tuesday.

Most I've paid for a four-pack is $25, KBS, most I've paid for a six-pack is $18, Bell's Expedition Stout, and most I've paid for a single bottle of beer is $41, The Lost Abbey Cuvee de Tomme. Those are my limits but I would say that 90% of my beer consumption is no where near my limit. Of the three I mentioned, I will only buy KBS again.

You do get the experience with that though, and that's worth something in and of itself with the beer as an extra.

I paid $30 for a 750 of DeuS Brut des Flandres, and I deliberated a loooong time before pulling the trigger. I can't imagine ever spending that much for a single beer again.

If I ever get a shot at Utopias, all bets are off. I'd pay that much for a 2-ounce pour.

I'm hesitant to spend above 5$ for a 12oz, or $10 for a bomber unless it's something like Fremont BBA Dark Star. That being said, I spent $35 on a 750 of 3F Oude Gueuze with zero hesitation, knowing that would probably be the only time I'd see it in person.

I spent $27 after taxes on a bottle of Evil Twin Imperial Biscotti Break Maple Bourbon Barrel Aged a week ago and my wife has not stopped giving me shit about it.

I blame her though because she saw it in the store and told me about it. I didn't expect it to still be there a week later.

Typically, I try to keep my spending to $15-$18 per week, whether it's a 4/6/22oz/750. I also have no self control, so I almost always fail. Or I go to another shop and spend another $15-$18.

I did just spend $7.99 for a Dogfish Head Oak-Aged Vanilla World Wide Stout. I really want to try it, but if it was $10 I don't know if I'd have pulled the trigger.

I spent 8 and was fully happy to do so because I can't make a beer like that.

Ditto...no Self control when it comes to a beer I want. $20 for a BCBS i'll take 5...$32.00 for an Abyss Brandy..sold. My guess if I were in Chicago on Black Friday and came upon a $60 BCBS rare I may think twice but I'd probably buy 2. I guess I should add that beer auction sites are probably my ceiling...I've seen plenty of beers I would like but x3 or x4 the price plus shipping...no thanks
