And as @SunDevilBeer mentions below, Chris is even better to talk to in person. Amidst the sea of New England IPAs he's managed to carve out a niche and maintain it.

Was this unpasteurized from a wooden barrel, or that crazy thing Pilsner Urquell does with multiple pours, each with a different amount of head?

I miss the Saison too. One of the more approachable and quaffable around.

I highly recommend heading to NERAX in Salem and then popping over to Notch for even more sessions brews. Then finishing it off with a burrito and nachos from Howling Wolf.

Nope looks like this one, supposedly the same as @ Urquell http://www.esquire.com/food-drink/drinks/amp21201/mastering-the-pilsner/

Imparts a real creamy texture & for some reason the hops really pop. Weird too that the faucet purposely gets submerged during the pour (on purpose)

@ChrisLohring I remember 16oz cans were in the plans with the new brewery and they were going to be released at the brewery only this past summer. Still going to happen?

Still not sure I get the all in love for the 16oz can. It's cool and all. I love the 6 packs of them, rare and they are. But a 6 of 12s is more beer than the ubiquitous 4 pack. Also hilariously the 16.9 oz bottle is widely panned, even in four packs.

Unless the 16 oz cans are 6 packs I hope notch doesn't move over. Just a reason for beer shops to charge more for less. People love that though for whatever reason.

Consumers can't do math. I only buy 4 packs of pounders that are special, not run of the mill IPAs & Pales (cough cough Lord Hobo)

I hate them mostly because I don't want 16 oz. of one beer. Especially considering many of these beers are higher alcohol. There's absolutely no reason at all an 8% beer should be in a 16 oz. can...heck, a 6% beer shouldn't be in a 16 oz. can either.

And yup, you get screwed on price as well.

I must confess that I really like the 16 ounce pour, even of the 8%ers (though my waist disagrees). They fill most of my glassware to an appealing level and I like being able to sit with them for a while.

But completely agree about disliking the four packs. I basically drink the same number of cans in a sitting (usually 2) whether they are 12 or 16 ounce, so I get more "sessions" out of a six pack. So I'm in a bit of a bind about what to wish for.

Fort Hill is putting all their stuff in attractively priced 12 ounce six packs so far. I wonder if they might nudge things in that direction or whether they'll end up caving in and moving to the 16/4 eventually.

I really, really hope fort hill sticks with the 6er. Been buying a lot of it lately

Surprised the 12 packs of Saison didn't move. I bought a fair amount of them when found fresh

One of the best developments in the local scene in a while; fantastic beers at a great price point.

I wouldn't go as far as "fantastic" for FH beers, but I'm happy to have "competent" beer available at a discounted price

8 dollar Green State Lager sixers has been a fantastic addition to the local scene. At least until everyone stops caring and I can't buy enough to help keep it fresh in my store.

I love Notch they hardly miss for me and Chris is a good dude I can like giving my money to. Gotta get back there soon. Sadly I moved far enough away I have to make it a point to go.

I was initially excited about seeing Conehead down here but once I tasted Green State that's been the one I've been buying regularly. It's pretty much exactly what I like in a pilsner and at a great price taboot. As you say, hopefully smart distro and demand will keep it from sitting.

To get back to the Notch topic, I hope the Zwickle is just the start of some sort of rotating series of their more niche beers. Fingers crossed that they take a flyer on canning Vincent one of these days.

Hay all, Thanks for the good words as always. 16oz cans from our Salem brewery were delayed as we've been selling every ounce of what we produce in Salem and through the draft only Single Series (once per month rotating). We are expanding the brewing space in Salem (again) and will be doing brewery only 16 oz can releases as a start early next year.

For distro, Zwickel (unfiltered German Pale Lager) in 16oz 6 packs (brewing that at Von Trapp), and Slanted & Enchanted (German Pale Lager dry hopped with Grüngeist & Hallertau Blanc) in 16 oz 6 packs (brewing that at Two Roads). Both will hit in early November. Still working on the Single Series in 16 oz cans. Not sure when that will hit distro just yet.

And for lager fans, we brewed a non-session beer for our Oktoberfest on Sept 17, a Festbier at 5.8% (Not a Marzen, but a Festbier akin to what is served in the tents in Munich). It seemed like the right occasion to brew a strong beer. Draft only, including gravity casks at the fest.

    Cheers.

Festbiers are something I'd hope to see from Notch. Looking forward to it.

6pk of zwickle and fodderstomph sound perfect for fall and the holidays.

Zwickel & Slanted & Enchanted will be year round offerings, just happen to be released in cans at that time.

This is so Notch. "Right time to brew a strong beer". The strong beer is a festbier, probably the #1 sessioned/binged beer in the world, at least for a few weeks.

Rest of NH distro pretty please!

Went today and had psychocandy and a dark czech beer,(forget the name), I have no idea how they are able to extract so much flavor out of 3-4% beers, but easily one of the best in the state. I have been a big fan since they were working out of Mercury, but the stuff they are putting out now is awesome. I wish they would can more of the brewery stuff.

I bet that was the Polotmavy, a Czech amber lager. Love that stuff. It was available seasonally in bottles for a year or two before becoming a draft-only brew. I wish they'd induct it into the canning schedule.
