Richard, if this was 3+ years ago I would agree with you on the Victory Braumeister Pils. Over the past couple of years the Sly Fox Tettnang Keller Pils has been absolutely OUTSTANDING. That beer is now my favorite Pilsner. They could pour it slow, fast, medium, whatever I don't care; just pour it!!

    Cheers!

That looks and sounds majestic. Do you know if it's distributed to New York?

I think Jean is making Pilsners cause that's what most brewers like to drink.. dry, crisp, taste's great after a long hot, damp day at work.

To me the incredibly well executed lagers are often times the most mind blowing to drink. They're the hardest to make and when you taste a great one it's amazing the difference. Mary is the best I've had. Haven't been to Germany to drink them fresh though.... yet.

Don't get me wrong I love hops, 75% of the beers I make and drink are highly hopped but the well executed Pilsner/Helles are truely the easiest to appreciate.

That beer is draft only and I think it is only available at the Sly Fox Brewpub and Sly Fox Tasting Room.

    Cheers!

I love that we are talking about lagers in his thread, about damn time. The guys behind and in front of me in line Wednesday we're just trashing any pils or non hazy IPA, it was hard for me to keep my mouth shut. To throw in my favorite pils of summer: industrial arts metric, top notch beer.

People shouldn't be confused as to why Tired Hands loves their lagers.. its Jeans favorite style..

That sucks people around you were trashing stuff like that, I've gotten that vibe before in line. I feel that Tored hands brewers great lagers, I'm just not a fan of their prices for them but I still buy them to show support for beers from them that aren't hazy IPAs.

Hey guys, I will be in Philly in a few weeks from now. Just curious whether or not Tired Hands sells cans at the brewery, and if so, when?

Releases are almost always Wednesdays.. you can find cans of hop hands at the general store almost always. Enjoy.

Just follow them on Instagram for mysterious updates.

Also adding to the current discussion I'm still saying that Prayer Group was probably the best lager Tired Hands has made imo. Curious about the foeder version coming out.

And currently they also have Go Ride A Bike and Helles Other people. GRAB is excellent and HOP is no slouch either if you like a good lager. I should have taken a picture of that cooler when I was there Thursday, packed with cans of 3 different beers...made me all teary eyed.

Sadly, that beer never seems to be fresh on shelves when I go looking for it. Cans and bottles are always 3, 4, and sometimes more months old. I'm not quite on board with considering 2 week old beer as being too old, but Prima relies on the hops for balance, and it's definitely past its prime after a few months.

Frankly, it's getting to the point where I walk into a beer store and wonder how they could possibly keep up fresh stock when hundreds of labels are just sitting out on the floor. Everyone wondering why beers like Tired Hands command such a premium - perhaps part of the problem is the extreme difficulty of finding anything on a shelf that isn't too old. Even one of my favorite locals - Conshohocken Puddler's Row ESB - is a few months old in cans I purchase at the brewpub.

In this environment, it's easy to understand why people stand in line and pay a premium price for beer canned that very day.

Months maybe but victory had a very good QA lab (family member works in the lab) and they purposely pick the best by dates based on tasting at intervals. So yes I agree fresh anything is always better but I whole heartedly trust the dates they put on their cans and bottles. For prima it's 5 months after bottling.

The Prima date is 5 months, IIRC. 3 or 4 months out you can definitely tell a difference. They aren't just picking those dates based on taste, either, because the shorter the "best by" time period is, the more beer they are going to end up having to take back (or the less they are able to distribute).

    CSA Update:

    Week 1: Hophands
    Week 2: Infinite Energy
    Week 3: Trendler Pils
    Week 4: Refreshing
    Week 5: Lemon Meringue Milkshake
    Week 6: Technicolor Splendor
    Week 7: Handbier
    Week 8: Pineal
    Week 9: Alien Church
    Week 10: Copy and Paste

So that is the final list, a pretty good summer of cans. Wish they would do a winter one, with veggies, meats and cheeses and winter beers.

And thanks for the update, much appreciated. Did you trek there each week to pick it up? That's the only reason I didn't buy in, it's really hard for me to get there each and every week. I also hope you enjoyed all the food stuff too, their breads are awesome.

I was in the Fermentaria last week and I had a glass of the Schwartzbier and I enjoyed drinking it. Just as a heads up the roast aspect in this beer is on the light side for my palate. I personally do not view this as a 'flaw' but some folks prefer to have a fair bit of a roasty quality in this particular beer style.

    Cheers!

Had it a few weeks ago at the Fermentaria. Out of what I tried it's the one I decided to leave with a fill of. I really enjoyed it. I didn't get an impression of the roast being on the light side.
