Planning on visiting Monkish for the first time tomorrow. Does the tasting room usually get pretty crowded on Saturdays? Any other tips for the visit?

Well the MayW /McG fight will be on tomorrow , either everyone will be elsewhere....or everyone will have the same idea in thinking no one will go to a brewery and end up there, so tomorrow might be a weird day to gauge. Also they do have a tv in their sitting area and I cant imagine that they would not have it on. Normal days will have its peak hours as any other place , I have slowed my visits a lot from a few years ago but I have seen them pre and post IPA. Definitely more crowded than before and seating has always been an issue, but I've never been uncomfortable standing when they've been swamped. I don't think I have been there with a, extremely large amount of people since their 5th year anni party where there were waves of people rolling in all day.

Thanks for the advice! I know the fight starts at 6pm so I will keep that in mind. Any nearby food recommendations?

Wow... Got a group text earlier that the fight was postponed due to an injury. After reading your post, I decided to click the link in my group text. Turns out it was just a picture of hands down the largest black penis I had ever seen. I blame you for this.

Unfortunately I'm not. The biggest foodie, the only thing that come directly to mind somewhat in the vicinity but not really is HopSaint with good house and guest beers... The food is absolutely phenomenal, roughly a 10 min drive from monkish if you have the time, but monkish is in an industrial area with mainly fast food surroundings

They usually have food trucks. If you want a greasy burger, Fantastic Cafe is right there

Mitsuwa food court is a 5 minute drive. Big fan of Santouka's ramen and Hannosuke's tempura. There are a bunch of other great Japanese spots in Torrance.

Hey homie, if you're going 2b in Torrance again, there are other worthy breweries in the area. Phantom Carriage is close & funky. Smog City is close & good. Yorkshire Square specializes in English cask ales.

Kappo Irifune is really fucking good.

I was at Monkish on Saturday night. I recommend going there when there's a fight. Was absolutely dead

A friend of mine wanted to know what can releases at Monkish were like, so I made him a starter pack:

Couldn't make this one but glad to see something other than galaxy hops. Seems like every single release(cans and fills) has been galaxy galaxy galaxy

is that a bad thing? The beers they've done with galaxy have been awesome and have had the best shelf life in terms of how good they are long past when you expect a canned IPA to last

.....and most of the bar got to see some of the fight anyway.

Missed the release yesterday. Or, more like, I haven't gone to a release in a couple of months. Friends usually hook it up with a can, but it's been a slog getting from OC from work to Torrance and back down to Long Beach.

Apparently this one was at Modern Times' Festival of Dankness as a preview. I didn't see it on the list of offerings so might have had to ask for it.

It's not necessarily bad, but I'm glad they finally changed it up... I love galaxy hops but my palate needed a change that's all

The last like, 9 can releases have been some combination of mosaic, citra and either galaxy, amarillo, or nelson. Is one of you seriously going to argue that the galaxy makes so much more difference than amarillo, nelson, or whatever obvious-hop-of-choice they've snuck in?
