Maybe in Florida, but there are a lot of releases up this way. That said, are they as good? Not many of them.

Hah! to the last part. There still isn't an American craft brewery's Amber that can last the first round again Spaten, much less go toe to toe with it .

I still think I prefer Hofbrau to the Weihenstephaner, but still buy plenty of both. I'd describe them like this-
Weihenstephaner is a Helles on steroids; Hofbrau is a svelte Maibock.

I'll get to the Ayinger 500 ml this weekend - hopefully I have better luck than you did. I'll be sure to report back in any case.

So far I've mostly been drinking Weihenstephaner Festbier in the Wies'n style, and the eminently local Copper Legend by Jack's Abby for something closer to a Marzen.

And if I make it to a packy today I'll take up @AlcahueteJ on his suggestion of comparing Weihenstephan to Spaten for their respective representative qualities. You know, for science.

Sad to hear about the Ayinger, a 500 ml bottle or two is always a treat for me every year.

I will agree that not many of the domestics are as good as the German biers. There is however, always a small handful that are my usual buys and I enjoy them as much as the imports, typically Left Hand, Victory and recently Sierra Nevada.

On the German front sadly, Paulaner has become hard to come by down here for some reason and it was usually my favorite of the imports. Oddly enough I've never tried the Spaten for some reason or other and I couldn't tell you why if you asked me.

It's not terrible by any means, but it's just too sweet this year. I dunno I wasn't really impressed.

GLBC's is a 6.5% and a little heavier, still easy to drink
SN's is under 6 and pretty light, very easy to drink

started my night with SN and finished it with GLBC

Maybe i'm just underexposed to the style, but I really, really enjoy Samuel Adams Oktoberfest.

I much prefer the pale style Oktoberfest. It does limit my options but Weihenstephan Paulaner and HB give me my fill. Locally Notch has just come out with one as well. I've not had it but on track record know it will be excellent.

Btw, for those interested, Hofbrau is finally in brown bottles this year so grabbing a sixer or two shouldn't be an issue with light.

Clear winner this year is Great Lakes Oktoberfest and Penn is very good this year. Sam Adams always a good stand by. Goose Fest Bier not so much. Seems too weak for my palate.

Sierra is too hopped up this year...more like a Pils..

Best for me so far is Paulaner. Capital is decent. Beaver Island from Minnesota is real big on the toasted malts...enjoyable as well.

I enjoyed both Sierra Nevada and left hand quite a bit, but my favorite this year has been schells.

So far I've had Hacker Pschor, Ayinger , SN, Sam Adams on tap. Easily SN is the best I've had so far.

Ayinger will always be my number one

Aside from that Left Hand, Odell and Sierra Nevada are pretty fantastic this year. For imports Hacker-pschorr, Hofbrau and Weihenstephaner are as good as ever. Have yet to pick up any Paulaner or Erdingerthis year, need to get on that

Cant wait to try those that I bought after work today. Got a sixer each of Sierra Nevada and Spaten. Also got 4 500ML of the Ayinger, and singles of Left Hand and Goose Island (curiosity got the best of me on this one). I may go back and grab a sixer of the Hofbrau now that its in brown bottles.
