...on best places to buy good beer and also to go drink good beer. I am staying at the Holiday Inn Express on Bell Ave in Houston. I can Uber wherever. I am from the Northeast... get a lot of great craft beers up there. Wondering what Houston has to offer. My favorite style is hazy IPAs but love any good IPAs. Looking for a place to buy cans for my room as well as cool spots to hit for good beer in the evenings. I know there are probably a lot of posts about this already but simply do not have the time to comb through. Thanks in advance.

I'm also vegetarian so if anyone knows where I can get good vegetarian food as well that is a bonus. (doesn't have to be the same place as good beer haha)

If I were you I'd check out Flying Saucer (Excellent beer from around the world, including good Texas beer selection), the Conservatory (not super beery, just a cool place), Saint Arnold, and for bottles, Specs downtown.

The operating hours might be different than posted...we had a little rain come through last week...

Why do you say that? I live in NJ... not from around here. I know nothing about this area.

Yes went to Flying Saucer last night. Great selection of beers!! The No Label Sittin' SideHaze was good. Thanks for the info!

Point of the post was a toung in cheek comenet referring to Harvey.

With what's going on in Houston I would assume beer hunting is rather difficult.

Seems like lots of places are open. I am here because of what's going on.

A lot of places have been opening up the last few days, for the most part you should be able to get around. For NEIPA's Holler might still have Hype PA on tap. Though if you do go there, get some Dollar Pils Y'all, an excellent lager and all sales go to the Harvey relief fund (I think that goes through the holiday) Premium Draught is a growler store, and has No Label's Sittin Side Haze. Great Heights Brewing just opened this week. They have an Amber, NEIPA, and Saison. Just a few blocks from Petrol Station, which is one the beer bars of note in Houston.

minor clarification: Great Heights is literally on the same block as Petrol Station, maybe 200 yards away.

Not sure if the OP is still in town, but I would suggest going back to the Saucer and trying Axis by Real Ale. That's a really solid double IPA. Also--Yellow Rose.

And as far as NJ goes, we got nothing that can hold a candle to Kane Brewing. Carton Brewing ain't bad either. Just saying...

I tried both of those... Yellow Rose was great! Had like 3 of those over a few visits. Yes Kane is wonderful. I go there almost every weekend... Carton is great too. Thanks for all the suggestions. Flying Saucer is really a gem... manager Josh is a great dude. I know your town was is devastation and that was why I was there... so sorry. Came home yesterday. Hope I can make it back on better circumstances. I will surely hit up Flying Saucer again.

I'm in town for a week starting Sunday and staying downtown. Conservatory is on my radar for Monday night $1 drafts and El Burro Steak Night. How's the brisket at El Burro?

No idea. But I can tell you this: places that serve sub par BBQ don't last long around these parts. Welcome to our neck of the woods!

Check out Bovine and Barley if you are downtown along with Flying Saucer. Also 8th Wonder is right off of downtown and the Eatsy Boys food truck is pretty good. Another place that is a short uber is Holler Brewing, they usually have a truck close by, if not walk across the street to the Pho restaurant. Another place not to far from downtown is Hughies Tavern off Main (new location) good food (shaking beef to die for) and great taplist. AxelRad is a beer garden that is not far from downtown and there are several food options close by. Have fun while you are here.

Also good place for breakfast and lunch is the Breakfast Klub, and they now started opening on weekends from 10pm to 3am. So if you stay over Friday or Saturday, head to AxelRad and when they shut down walk over and get Breakfast then Uber back to your room.

Conservatory is bomb, but El Burro is merely OK. The pizza place down there is solid and if you like Poke then Moku is the place for you. Mars bakery makes a really tasty fried chicken sandwich and is a hidden gem.

This may be true of the smaller joints, but there are some sub-par chains out there (Pappas immediately comes to mind) that seem to persist just fine.

What's the general opinion on Buffalo Bayou? I've tried an Amaretto cream ale from them that was pretty good, and at Spec's downtown I saw they had a bunch of interesting looking bottles. Is the tap room worth checking out?

Worth checking out? Yes. Visit every place at least once.

I am a big fan of trying new stuff, so personally, I give Buffalo Bayou a lot of leeway.

That said, IMO they've produced more misses that hits (amoretto is a hit, I agree).

    YMMV

Stopped at Spindletap on the way to the airport. Cans of Operation Juice Drop are still available.
