With the calendar & weather changing figured I'd start this thread. Ground rules: Must be a New England-made seasonal offering that is reasonably available (not some line-up or secret squirrel with a beer store clerk).

I'll start with Smuttynose Pumpkin (really just a Pale with Pumpkin essence) & Harpoon Flannel Friday (great combo of malt/bit of smoke & nice hoppy finish ).

Have yet to find a good Okto/fest lager made by a local Brewer - which is disappointing. Copper Legend doesn't cut it IMO in comparison to the German ones.

I'll go with von Trapp Oktoberfest. Really nice option, great price and great availability this time of year. I agree with Flannel Friday, nice brew. Had a few at the VT beer garden last week.

Haven't seen the Von Trapp yet but am confident it will be good, they are very competent with all German styles.

I wouldn't call these favorites per se, but they weren't bad.

Otter Creek's collab with that German brewery was good, I don't think it was as good as the imports, and I don't remember much about it specifically...but I liked it. I'm probably going to grab another single or two.

Sam Adams Octoberfest believe or not wasn't too shabby this year. Becomes cloying as it warms, but not a bad drinker.

Copper Legend was better two years ago, the last two years it's fallen off a bit for my palate. Which is weird, because I think they started decoction mashing last year.

I remember Nightshift's being good last year too, excited to hopefully try it again this year.

I also dig Otter Creek's Pumpkin Ale. There aren't too many pumpkin ales I drink anymore, but this one and Smutty's I'll usually grab a single or two of.

So far this year I've only had Sam Adams Octoberfest and Jack's Abby's Copper Legend. Copper Legend's has been a favorite of mine these past couple of years,!and this year is no different!
I'll be on the lookout for local festbiers as the season gets into full swing! Definitely a favorite style of mine!

Harpoon pumpkin is not too bad. Easy to drink a few in a night.

I don't think any of those are fall seasonals, and are available year round.

Although Geary's I'm not sure about. Didn't they close and then recently re-open with a new image?

I really like Cape Ann's Imperial Pumpkin Stout. I *want* to like pumpkin beers in general but somehow they never quite taste like what I imagine they should (and it seems like a natural combo that shouldn't be so hard to get right). I'd like to see more places go the stout route with their pumpkin offering instead of with the usual brownish ale.

Sad to say Sam Adams Okto made me think I didn't like Oktoberfest beers for quite a while back in the day. I had Von Trapp's at the brewery and liked it a lot but I don't think I've seen it in stores yet down here.

Honestly the Sierra Nevada fall variety pack is what I most associate with the season these days. Bummer they're not making one this year.

When available, Ma from Tree House ticks all the right fall boxes.

Trillium's Deciduous was #2 to Ma in my book when it was an imperial red. Last year's imperial brown didn't do it for me. Hopefully the red makes a comeback this year.

As for beers that are regularly attainable: Jack's Abby Copper Legend. I do hope they decide to can/bottle the Franconian Kellerbier... I'd drink the hell out of that one during football games.

Kehl from Night Shift also stood out to me as an excellent fall beer. Their lagers have made some serious headway in the past ~18 months.

This thread reminds me that I need more Von Trapp in my life.

That brown was, to me at least, not a good beer. The hops and the base didn't make sense to me...felt conflicting. Also, I don't really care too much about beer's appearance but it was seriously off putting. Looked like the day after result of a college night of 20 Budweisers.

Agreed with Copper Legend, love that stuff. Fall is Jack's Abbey's season!

Seconded! And that reminded me of Jack's Abby's Saxony which I also enjoyed a lot.

Been a few years since I've had it, but I always liked Gritty's Halloween Ale. I'm a sucker for a good ESB and this hit the spot. If I recall there were two versions though: bombers were brewed by Gritty's and 6-packs by Shipyard, so one had ringwood and the other didn't. Maybe that was just a myth.

When Tod & Tyler were brewing, Portsmouth's Hop Harvest beers were always a delight. Particularly working downtown on brew days when the smell of the fresh hops would envelope the city.

Oh, I just remembered, I bought the Sam Adams Fall Can Variety pack for a party this past Sunday.

I really dug the Bohemian Pilsner in there, maybe just a bit too hoppy, but otherwise a beautiful, clean (and crystal clear), moderately balanced lager.

Seemed a bit more German to me than Czech, but a nice sessionable beer.

Is that still made? Haven't seen it this year (or last) and it isn't listed on their website.

A shame, I really liked that beer (albeit it was a bit boozy for the style).

So is their Maibock, but I like both for what they are (were? Can't remember the last time I had the Maibock either, I think I liked it...). I go into it not expecting anything traditional, but at the same time it's not some whacky far-fetched gimmick that completely detracts from the style...*cough* Lagunitas.

I bought it last year but haven't seen it this year.
I see its logo is still posted on Berkshire's website but when I click on it I get an empty page.
