Chicago Stout Releases (2018)

I was monitoring the Untappd comments and the consensus seemed to be that it was super sweet and not particularly coffee forward. I'll grab a bottle to try if I can come across one though

 

I share the super sweet sentiment. Was really hoping it would be more balanced, but it leaned too heavily on the maple syrup.

 

Looks like Vanilla oak World wide Stout by Dogfish is around Chicago now.

Sounds pretty good.

 

I picked up a couple bottles while in Michigan last month, and I drank one right away. I have to say that it didn't excite me much, and I think I prefer regular Worldwide Stout.

 

Not a stout, but 2016 Alaskan Smoked Porter has hit Binny's.

 

Had that one on draft at Bigby's and I thought it was very good. Such a big, bold beer.

 

Disclosure: I don't like "regular' World Wide Stout.

I'm loving the Vanilla version; the sweetness cuts the astringent boozy notes & melds with them to form a pleasant, brandy-like character.

I've bought 8 already (and they ain't cheap!).

Looks like Stone's Neapolitan Dynamite is starting to be distributed nationwide... Looking forward to trying this one.

May have to do a side by side with Henna.

 

Looks like The Open Bottle got some 16' Darkness today.

 

I had a '16 recently (one I had cellared, not a recently released one).

Good, not great. I don't think the year's time added much to the beer when fresh. I know I won't be spending $20 or more on this one again.

Just one idiot's opinion if anyone is on the fence about this one as it starts popping up.

I couldn't agree with this more. I brought a '16 Darkness and '16 BA Darkness to a bottle share and hog roast party at a friends place back in June. Did them side by side in tasters, which consisering they are proper 750's, it got in a lot of hands. Everyone thought it was very good, but not great by any means. The biggest surprise was that it was pretty thin. It also could be that the Shared Peruvian we had prior ruined the chance of any other stout being perceived as "great" that night.

 

Any word on crack they Skye going to distro?
