I'm guessing some play on words of Sturbridge, Leicester, and some -ville town.

Stopped by Craftroots yesterday for their soft opening. Nice use of the space; beer styles were simple but decent. Nothing amazing, however their IPA stood out. Their pale ale with apricots was also a highlight. I look forward to seeing how they diversify their offerings though.

Interesting thoughts, I also think this should have a thread of its own.

    I think we'll see:

    • Giants lose a bit of market share to the "hyper-local" small breweries. Some of which are making a better product, not to mention people are more inclined to support their neighbors(or friends in some cases). Also, I feel some of them are currently playing "catchup". An example of this is present in NE with the haze trend, that all big and some medium breweries have tried to mimic with varying degrees of success. They will ultimately figure it out and stabilize growth trends and hopefully make staff retention a priority.
    • AB Inbev(mega conglomerates) continue to purchase any small or medium brewery that has seen some success and is willing to entertain the idea of limitless buying power and nationwide distro.
    • Many small breweries close, the second hand market flooded with tons of commercial grade equipment that may not even break scrap prices. Talented employees left in the wake, looking for work. See mediocrity ,over saturation, mismanagement or selling market in general(combination of several issues in some cases).
Sorry to be so bleak. It's just my opinion.

    What I hope to see:

    • Agree with above statement regarding Growler laws!
    • More gas stations, c stores, grocery stores and even bottle shops embrace the growler, crowler model with a focus on local landscape.
    • More breweries printing brewed on and suggested enjoy by dates. I would also like to see more proactive approach to markdown schedule to alleviate some of the shelf turds that have literally been there for a year or more. Some shops don't even try to hide that fact, they have an inch of dust on bottles.
    • Better trained staff selling beer, let these people try the product!
    • Better distro in the 603! Sad to see our 802 neighbors expand into MA or CT and skip us entirely. (Yeah yeah, I know it's just a river crossing away). Which leads to;
    • Better laws! I consider MA and VT to be local...
    Thoughts?

Turtle Swamp in jamaica plain is open, went there last weekend. Crowlers and growlers and pours, no regular cans as of now. Lots of outdoor seating (aka crowded outdoor seating) but a tiny indoor area, room for the retail area where they have their taps in old fridges and three picnic tables, no way the taproom is big enough for winter or even fall once its cold. It did look like they were still expanding and finishing up construction inside so hopefully they expand the indoor space, as of now the interior where you can actually go is smaller/same size as TH in Monson.

Pretty good beer though, got a pour of their Serendipidous Pale Ale and a pour of an IPA, don't remember the name but it might've been Toll Gate, I could be wrong though. Both were good, not great. Got a crowler of the JP Porter as well, also pretty good, could do with a bit more flavor as they describe it as having "strong notes of chocolate and coffee", I disagree about "strong" notes of either but it was good regardless. Wanted to try their Bitter (Nik's Bitter but Never Angry) but didn't have time.

I'd rank them below NS/Lamplighter currently, hoping to see them expand their indoor area otherwise they're going to have a problem come fall/winter, not a place I'd wait 15-20 min in line or stand huddled in a crowded taproom for. Worth checking out if you're in the area but not must-try beer for now.

The Google shows two new breweries planned... Bathwater Brewing in Teaticket, MA and Lucky Goat Brewery in Wareham, MA. No further info.

Just had to look it up myself because it sounded fake. Looks like it's a part of Falmouth.

Backyard brewery just opened up in Manchester NH. Nice spot with good food. Certainly focused on being a restaurant but the beer is very nice. They do a wide array of styles and have had a couple NEIPAs on tap they were very good. The Aussie Oatback DIPA was the best IPA I've had come out of NH. All the beers I tried were at minimum good for the style.

Right down the street in londonderry is Long Blue Cat. It hasn't opened yet but looks close. Don't know much about it outside of that.

    Greetings fellow BA'rs,

The time has finally come for Barnstable Brewing to complete our arduous beer odyssey and open the brewery this Saturday at 485 West Main St, Hyannis .
If you're not familiar with our journey, I will be brief.

Our family has been trying to open in Hyannis since we looked at an awesome, recently-closed, commercial laundry facility in July of 2013.

We bought the building only to be legally held up by our commercial abutter. This delayed us for over 2 years.

With that behind us, we have persevered and are ready to share our beer with you.

I've been brewing beer for 28 years and won the Sam Adams Come Brew With Us contest in 2012.
The legal hurdles have been navigated, and our son, Mark used the time wisely in 2014 to attend the Siebel Institute of Technology in Chicago and Doemens Academy in Munich, Germany as part of the World Brewing Academy. The Alumni list include Matt Brynildson, Jack Hendler, and many others.

We have merged my decades of brewing with his exemplary laboratory experience and science knowledge to create the best beer we know how. No exceptions. No corner cutting.

My wife Ann has stood by our side and is anxious to use her event planning background to execute an awesome tasting room experience.

Visit our Facebook page for more updates and more info on the obstacles that delayed us.

    https://m.facebook.com/BarnstableBrewing/

It's time... and we couldn't be more prepared or more happy to share it with you.

We've been busy with Nate's (Treehouse) pilot system and our steam automated ABE system is on its way.

    Cheers,

    Peter Connor
Founder of the Connor family brewery known as Barnstable Brewing

went there today, had a flight and a few pours. the com-rad russian imperial stout, imperial version of donut shop, was my favorite, it was off the hook. the 50 year storm double ipa and oktoberfest were also top notch. its definitely worth checking out, and they started crowlers today too

Can anyone comment on the quality of beer at Black Hat Brew Works in Bridgewater or Widow maker in Braintree? South Shore is starting to turn out some new ones

Black hat is pretty good. Nothing that set them apart from the many other pretty good breweries. I have a buddy who think they are the best so YMMV. Worth a try.
