The Half-Acre thread (2018)

Anyone at Balmoral can report if it's crazy.

 

Any chance they have a full bar? My gluten free girlfriend would appreciate it for sure. TVs up playing the games?

 

Went Saturday at noon for lunch. Busy but no line. Cool space, awesome food, good service even for opening day.

Lincoln will still be the go to (its closer) but its definately a nice chance of pace.

 

Did anyone take kids with them, or see families there? I thought the first weekend might be a bit hectic, so not good to take the family there, but was thinking about it for this weekend.

 

Half Acre Lincoln Park taproom has always been my favorite spot to stop, but Balmoral is hard to top. reaaaaaly cool space and energy over there. Probably going again on Saturday <3

 

Crap, where is the Lincoln Park taproom at?!?! I would love to go to that one.

 

Our group had very young children and there were other groups that brought stroller bound kids. Seemed like they thought it was family friendly one friend mentioned that the bathrooms didn't have changing tables. There were long lines at points of the day Saturday but if you wait a couple weeks im sure it will be smooth sailing.

This Friday, rock up to Lincoln Ave for Dungeons India Pale Ale. This batch is full strawberry lime mashed tangerine sauce.

 

I love HA, but they are good at making these special release descriptions sound so much better than the beer actually is.

 

Not only that, but the bottle/can art is always so good I'm tempted to buy even if the description is "this beer just tastes like dirty water."

 

I stopped by and picked up Dungeons and Lager Town...both pretty good. Dungeons has a great nose IMO

 

Man, not much chatter about Dungeons. FWIW, it was one of the best hoppy HA beers I've had. Buddy of mine brought a 4-pack to my BBQ and I wish I'd thought to stash one before they all got drank.

 

Tried it at Capones yesterday and though it was Half Acre average....outside of the aroma, tasted like most other HA beers, but not the exceptional ones.

 

Wow. For HA I thought it was on the better end of what they do, or at least what they've been putting out lately. Looking at LA Looks which I had at Capones. Absolutely terrible.

 

Really? I was actually a fan of LA Looks. I can understand if you're not of fan of coconut. I was not going to buy these at first, but I was pleasantly surprised.

And I loved Dugeons both times on draft. Need to get around and pick up these cans.

 

Yeah, LA Looks was good. I preferred it to Dungeons...

 

I can see not liking this beer at an event where you get a small pour and are drinking many other beers. At first sip I also disliked LA Looks, but as you get into this beer it really turns delicious in my opinion. It's definitely a different flavor, but I turned out to really enjoy it.
