My buddy and I are planning a weeklong vacation in California and we are huge craft beer guys. We're big into IPA's and are definitely making stops at Stone Brewing and Russian River. But besides those two, we really don't have much else planned. The vacation is supposed to be dedicated to beer (only the best vacations are!).

Does anyone have any breweries, restaurants, pubs, bars, etc. that we should put on the itinerary?

Any and all suggestions are greatly appreciated!

    Cheers!
    Steve

Head a little south of Stone and hit up Green Flash Brewing. Also in the city next to Stone there's Churchill's Pub.

    Wrong section.

I hope you realize that RR and Stone are pretty far apart. I recommend visiting Alpine for sure. If you have time, maybe stop by The Bruery or Firestone Walker.

California's a big state and has a lot of beer stuff, man. I'll throw out a couple places in the LA area that might be off your radar - Ladyface Alehouse in Agoura Hills(Malibu area) and Blue Palms Brewhouse in Hollywood.

Yeah I would ask this is US Pacific. Also, as others have said, California is big. Traveling north to South, is like taveling East to west in Texas, a whole lot of ground to cover.

Edit: looks like it got moved. Could use some more details to help you out. Where are you starting, and liking to end (city wise) I agree a week is enough to cover a lot of ground. However, there are over 300+ breweries in CA. Many are worth a visit, some not so much. Some of them have great distribution (say Sierra Neveda) & are great visits, but are pretty out of the way from other breweries too.

A week is a longtime, you could cover Alpine to RR no problem.

How long are you planning to spend in each area? The Bay Area has a lot to offer. Sierra Nevada is pretty far out of the way, but doable. SoCal could keep you busy all week. The only significant place in-between the two is Firestone Walker, but that can be hit by driving south along the 101.

doable? Sure. but might not be the best plan as that is a lot of driving with a lot of places to visit. You could easily spend a week in Northern California visiting all of the places (probably a week alone in San Fran), and you could spend a week alone in San Diego alone, not to mention a day in LA and a day or two in OC.

SD/OC 3 days, Firestone 1 day, Bay Area/RR 3 days... then go home happy. :grinning:

North Coast Brewing Co. in Fort Bragg, Lagunitas in Petaluma, Toronado in S.F. Barclay's in Oakland/Berkeley, Magnolia in S.F. (for real cask ale) California is a beer paradise. Oh and Drake's Barrel House is worthy of a visit.

definitely doable, and if that is the only option (won't be able to make another trip sometime soon) then I agree.

Personally when I travel, I like to stay in places for an extended time, so when my vacation is done, I am ready to leave. For example, when I visited Australia/NZ, I stayed in Christchurch for 4 nights and Sydney for 10 nights. That was perfect, as I got to casually enjoy each city instead of rushing around. Though i do know people who prefer to move around a lot and see all that they can.
