Picked up a single bottle of this one a while ago; only just now getting around to trying it. Interesting beer, never had a barrel-aged IPA before -- it's coming across a bit barleywine-like, though maybe a bit lighter on the malt than barleywines I've had before. That nice rich malty smell with slight almost-raisin-like tones to it is definitely there. Alcohol is noticeable as a warmth in the mouth and throat for a bit after taking a drink, but this is 12% ABV so that's not surprising.. "Barleywine-y" malt flavors along with a significant bitterness and some nice orange-like citrusy flavor from the hops After a few sips I'm noticing the barrel influence a lot more, there's a vanilla-y thing going on that's really nice. Also finding that despite the noticeable alcohol this goes down very easily, I want to take bigger sips than I would expect for a beer with such a high ABV!

Overall impression -- haven't had a bad beer from Founders yet, or even an "eh" one, and this is no exception. This is a really unique (and really tasty) beer that I'm glad I picked up a bottle of... though I wish I'd gone for a full four-pack instead after how disappointing some of the other beers I picked up on the same trip were. Actually, I'll probably go for a full pack of these the next time I'm at the beer store if they still have any in stock (despite being an IPA, with the barleywine-esque qualities this one has I get the impression that being a little older won't hurt it much, if at all.)

I'm also on a tight budget for now. That, plus old habits die hard.

2nd IPA of the night and I didn't read the label the first time apparently, didn't realize this was a fruit IPA, and it's an unusual one. Also, pretty shitty at taking pics lately for whatever reason.

Sun Up Trooper IPA. Pairs aggressive bitterness with a surprisingly rich and bready malt body. Nice.

Finally got cable, internet and phone back!
Been a helluva week and thankfully Irma didn't do as much damage here as she did elsewhere!
We can really tell the difference at work too, the phones have been really quiet.
    Time for a beer!
