Union Export Brewery - Peter's Brand Classics Lager Beer
    by imbibehour, on Flickr

    -----------------------

Poured from the can into a pokal style glass.

A fluffy and off white two finger head, manages a little bit of staying power slinking down to a finger very slowly and evenly. Body color is quite clear, with a dark pale amber color to it, a sort of mix of brass brown and yellow with some nice hues. Some nice small amounts of carabonation as well.

Aroma is a little subdued but pleasant. An almost crackery malt bill, with a little bit of hinting pils density. Some light sort of light kind of toasty quality as well. Some of the dark malt character seems a little odd, sort of out of place but not totally.

Palate seems to play it pretty safe. Light caramel faux flavor quality but with a pleasant tone. A bit of a slight shallow body which makes for a somewhat Euro lager flavor and feel. A somewhat touch of tea like hops and herbs interestingly, which makes for quite an interesting unexpected surprise. A bit of a flour crackery malt sensation, particularly on the finish. Nice mellow sweetness.

This sort of comes off as an almost mish mash Mexican Vienna mass Lager Euro thing of sorts. I actually don't mind this, far worse things can happen.

The next new beer for the day and probably my last since I have a growler is Revelry Never Sunny. This is their take on a NE IPA, clocking in at 7.6% only complaint I have is the flavors are a little watered down and could have more punch. GO COWBOYS!!!!

Appearance 3.75 - Pours cloudy orange color with thin white head that dissipates to a thin ring around the glass. Spotty lacing around the glass.

Aroma 4 - Nice light juicy tropical aroma mango, orange and pineapple. A light hop presence with a touch of bitter grapefruit.

Taste 4 - A nice combination of juicy orange/pineapple mixed with grapefruit bitterness and mild hopiness. The flavors are a touch muted.

Feel 3.75 - Light side of medium well carbonated with just a touch of dryness on the finish.

Overall 3.96 - A nice take on a tropical IPA, flavors could be a little bolder drinks alot like a hoppy APA.

What's up BA? Wasn't sure I was going to have a new beer today, but saw this one show up on the tap list at the local shop.

This is Avondale's Mango Green Tea Spring Street Saison.

I've always enjoyed the base beer, and the addition of mango and green tea seem to add to the experience.

    Poured from 32 oz growler.

A: Slightly hazy lemon yellow with 1-2 finger pillowy white head. Moderate retention and light lacing.

S: Tropical fruits with mango, pineapple, and lemon. Subtle grassy note and the slightest hint of green tea.

T: Lemon, mango, and pineapple mixed with green tea and pepper. Just the right balance between fruit and an earthy funk.

M: Medium to light body with average carbonation. Crisp and refreshing.

O: Nice twist on the Spring Street Saison. The mango and tea contributing in subtle but important ways.

Yellow Rose | The Lone Pint Brewery

Lone Pint Brewery - Yellow Rose IPA
    by imbibehour, on Flickr

Poured from the bottle into a Spiegelau IPA glass. Bottled July 25th 2017.

Opaque but stays away from turbid qualities, and more of a classic unfiltered appearance. Dark lemon to, graperfruit orange body color throughout. Real nice fluffly topped head, making three fingers with a creamy top and island puck. Soapy retention and good staying power. A very solid looking IPA.

Very impressive aroma for a single hop brew. Hop angle is nice and front with a good sweet malt balance. Pine sharp but with a very nice grapefuit to orange citrus tone, including large amounts of sweet zest going on. Big amounts of sweet spritzy orange and grapefruit just come straight out fresh and rich. Excellent brew on the nose.

Delicious palate. Aroma matches flavors on the tongue nicely, with soft hop grapefruit, and more lemon citrus qualities coming along. Finishes with a touch of pine/herb but with more soft bodied malt, and a touch of more fruit. Flirts between pale ale lightness and IPA hop blasting aromatics. Not much sense of pils character, but the IPA is made for center stage. Agree upon a bit of chalky finish a bit, but would just love some bakery and chewy density to set this on fire.

Hello NBS commentators. And thank you, @lordofthewiens, for another thoughtful introduction. I also become wistful for college days this time of the year, although today it feels more like August than September. I still remember those hot, humid late August days in Central Pennsylvania in a dorm without air conditioning. On to beer. I've enjoyed Cigar City's offerings for several years and was thrilled when New Jersey finally began to receive distribution earlier this year. At first, there was only Jai Alai (brewed in Asheville) and Florida Cracker, but lately we're getting the specialty releases such as Marshal Zhukov. Today, I'm reviewing Good Gourd. I measure pumpkin ales against Schlafly's and this one passes with flying colors. In addition to the pumpkin and autumn spices, there is an almost spice cake-like taste. Here's my review:

    4.29/5 rDev +1.7%
    look: 4.25 | smell: 4 | taste: 4.5 | feel: 4.25 | overall: 4.25

2017 release. Poured into Cigar City tulip glass. It pours a dark brown-cola color with two fingers of khaki-colored head and lacing with excellent retention. Myriad bubbles ascend the glass. The nose features sweet malt, fairly subtle pumpkin, nutmeg, cinnamon, and a whiff of tobacco. The first thing I taste, not surprisingly, is the pumpkin; and it is very sweet. There is also lots of spice: nutmeg, cinnamon, clove, and allspice. What surprises me is that there follows a cracker and caramel taste that has a spice cake-like quality. This is increasingly prevalent as the glass warms. This ale has a pleasantly creamy feel with moderate carbonation. The ABV is a deceptive 8.8% It doesn't drink that high. Overall, this is an excellent pumpkin ale that grew on me as I sipped it. It has unexpected complexity of taste and feel. I'm glad this ale is now distributed in New Jersey. It will be part of my autumn rotation.

I hope everyone is enjoying their new beer today. I'm also obsessing over the Roadrunner vs. Coyote hints.

Whats up NBS? Thank you @lordofthewiens for the opening beer story. Very cool. Had some of those myself but in different forms. Hauling a keg up through the 3rd floor window on a rope was memorable. Didnt get caught either. Then there were the "Hairy buffalos". No Idea where the name came from but we would choose one room, cover the floors in plastic. Everyone invited would bring an alcoholic beverage. Beer, wine, whiskey etc. They would all be poured into a plastic trash can with ice and kool aid. No shoes allowed. Had the worst hangover in my life after one.
    Anyhow todays brew is
Nightshift One Hop This Time Mosaic
Pours a golden clear yellow with a great 1.5 " head of snow white pillowy foam that stands for quite a bit. Leaves nice sticky lacing.
Aroma is awesome dank with loads of overripe tropical notes of pineapple, guava, passionfruit. Some peach discloses itself with lemon citrus and some green grassy notes
Taste follows with tropical fruits, piney bitterness, crisp citrus and a touch of light malts. Tasty.
Feel is medium bodied but finishes crisp, clean and dry with nice bitterness and excellent carbonation.
Always liked this one hop thing from NS. There have been a few misses but seems they are really polishing this up. Mosaic lovers its for you. Thanks for taking the time. Have a cool night

greetings all! I was hoping to head to a couple of local Oktoberfest festivities this weekend but life got in the way and I'm going to have content myself with just drinking one at home. So far this year I've had Sierra Nevada's, Idle Hands, Zero Gravity, and Von Trapp's and have enjoyed them all. I'm partial to the festbier style but I like a good Marzen as long as it's not sweet and syrupy (which I find Sam Adams' to be for example). Today I've got me an Ayinger, which they describe as a fest-marzen and clocks in at 5.8% ABV:

I've found their pilsner to be very tasty but they don't date their bottles which is a problem, especially for an import where even with a date you have to worry about the vagaries of an overseas trip. This one pours a very attractive clear amber color that lets plenty of light through. Perhaps the name is meant to indicate that it's halfway between a marzen and a fest bier. It gives forth a huge frothy head with very little provocation - the kind of big fluffy one that sticks to your upper lip and invites you to scrape it down with the bottom one. It doesn't last too long but the ring it leaves behind creates plenty of lacing as you go along.

The nose is fairly subdued but has a nicely sweet bready aroma. Maybe just a little spicy hop character. Mouthfeel is fairly crisp (more fest than marzen) and the taste is pretty dry and does not follow the sweetness from the nose. It has a fairly straightforward malt character with no hops to speak of and unfortunately, the biggest flavor note I pick up on is a coppery/metallic flavor. My wife notices the same thing unprompted. I've encountered this before in amber colored beers and Bass is the most notorious example I can think of as it's always tasted like pennies to me.

So, all in all something I'm probably not going to buy again. Especially given Ayinger's lack of date codes on their beer (I got it at a decent store, but for all I know it's from last year). I'll still pick up their pilsner now and again though if I see it at a good price at a reputable store because it's delicious if it's not retirement age.

    Cheers all!

I bought mine yesterday in Marmora so the price reflected the "Shore inflation." Everything there is a dollar or two more than we pay in North Jersey. I think I paid $12.99. I bet that when I see it in this area it will be a little less. Really good, I'm glad we get it here now!
