When Jack and I realized that we both had the same birthmark (it looks like a mash paddle, and both of us have it on our left arm), I tried to convince him that we were brothers from another mother. He wasn't convinced. Today, I am convinced that we are brothers from another mother and the evidence is overwhelming. Not only are we drinking the same beer for NBS, we are even using the same glass, AND both of our glasses have had the golden dragon completely erased from repeated washings. It's uncanny.

I ignored Jack's post to avoid his take influencing mine.

It's surprising how little head this one had. It's also surprising how I didn't suck this one down really fast. I spent the day pushing around a stroller in the muggy heat... and then mowed the lawn. I figured I would have to take that into consideration with reviewing this beer. Let's face it, if you're depressed, your gonna rate a Leonard Cohen album a little higher upon a listen. Under these weekend cicumstances, I know a drinkable beer is gonna make out like a bandit. It wasn't a good sign that I didn't have to stop myself from drinking this beer too fast.

Body is very thin. There's a fruitiness that one can't totally place with the yeast, hops, or orange addition. There's a melon flavor and quite a bit of bitterness. This beer feels like an average craft "Belgian table beer" as much as it feels like an American pale ale. I was lucky to drink some De Ranke SimpleX a little bit ago. This beer reminded me of that one, but Simplex begged for a second glass and Beach was a bit of a chore.

Poured from a 12 oz bottle (enjoy by 11/15/17), to a nonic.
Beautiful initial head, thick, multi-size bubbles, fades fairly quickly, but with good lacing. Glowing red/brown liquid with some rising bubbles, but no a lot.
Mild malt smell, no much else.
Taste is rather good, more bitter than expected by aroma (which is I like). Nice red ale. Mouth coating is good.

A very fine light copper color, with a decent amount of carbonation, a slight head but plenty of lacing.

Aroma is a mild pleasant sake and rice scent.

Surprisingly fairly dry and light, yet very crispy.

Very light and smooth with a very complex character.

A very well balanced, very refined and very well done beer.

I had this on tap at Mahr's a couple of months ago in Bamberg. The general consensus of my fellow beer drinkers was that the unfiltered beer was getting less ungespunt and more filtered each year. Mine was nearly clear.

Greetings, fellow NBSers, and thanks to @lordofthewiens for getting us going.

The weather in eastern Washington has been somewhat smoky again, but not to the extent of a week ago, when I damn near wore out my asthma inhaler. Things have been somber, however, with the shooting at Freeman High School, SE of Spokane.

New beers that have been consumed this week that include a double vertical of the last two anniversary editions of Black Butte, an IPA from the town that used to brew Oly that was brewed with a yeast strain from Norway, an imperial stout brewed with coffee and vanilla, and a Yakima Valley IPA brewed in collaboration with two Mexican breweries.

Today's new beer is a hazy IPA from the Navy town of Bremerton, WA:

Not bad, but this undated can seems to have been sitting for a while.

I might drink another new beer today. Between the Seahawks inability to score in the red zone beyond field goals and the utter collapse of my fantasy team (Hilton, McCoy, looking at you...), drinking seems likely.

    Happy Quadrupel Beer Sunday!

Pretty nice day here on the Western Slope, some clouds, at the trailhead 72, nice little hike. Not a new brew today, but it's been over 9 years since I last had it. I also upped the review with this bottle. Seems not that many people like this one. Picked up some chicken tacos. Was watching some preseason NHL, now waiting for the Cowboys/Broncos game.

    Caged/Corked

Poured into a goblet a very nice translucent brownish color, very nice carbonation, with a very nice thick/creamy one-finger plus tan head, which also leaves a very thick/creamy medium size island, and a very nice huge oil slick, and some nice sticky lacing behind. The nose is malty, yeasty, with some pretty nice dark fruit complex (cherries, grapes, figs, prunes, raisins). The taste is very nice, malty, yeasty, with a really nice touch of dark fruit complex (cherries, grapes, figs, prunes, raisins), with a really nice sweetness. Full Body, ABV hidden very very well, this is a very tasty complex brew. Overall, glad that I bought this one to try again. Wish it was around here.

    750ml
    Caged/Corked

Poured into a chalice a deep black color, some carbonation, tiny fizzy tan head, not much sticky lacing at all, but some oil slicks. The nose is malty, slight yeast, figs, prunes, raisins, and some caramel. The taste is slightly sweet at first, malty, dark fruit, slight alcohol, and caramel. Medium body, slightly chewy, complex brew. Very drinkable, a nice brew, there is a slight twist on the style though with this one.

    Cheers!

Burial & Carton - Own Benefactor

I frequently line up multiple beers for NBS in a theme. Today, both of my beers are connected to Carton, and both are ales that use a Kolsch yeast.

Carton's culinary leanings give me 1 part admiration to 4 parts distaste, but I never had a beer from them that I didn't like.

This beer says that it is a merging of the two brewers' house beers rendered in an IPA form. On the Carton side, I'm guessing this means Boat. It's not a stretch to think that Beach was a play on Boat as well.

I like this one better than Beach, but not by a tremendous amount. The body is thick and sticky, but I'm probably comparing it to Beach too much in that regard. Otherwise, this feels like a generic (slightly) tropical IPA to me, but I'm probably revealing my personal blind spots in saying so.

    Cheers.

    Good Sunday Afternoon, NBSers. :beers:
This one is a nice, easy-drinking Scottish ale. Not noticeably smoky, or peaty, more like an amber +. Nothing spectacular, but a good, solid, thoroughly enjoyable brew.

Pours a clear chestnut/tannic brown with creamy, long-lasting, off-white head, and ample lacing.

Aroma is slightly floral/slightly fruity malt, with a touch of bread dough, toffee, & nuttiness.

Flavor follows nose, with a light touch of lingering bitterness on the finish.

Feel is medium-light, slightly oily, with fine, medium-soft carbonation.

Overall, a good one, that I'd gladly have again.
After reading a few reviews, I would like to try the nitro version.

I spent quite a bit of time in Greece and was always thankful for the nice German beers that cost just a bit more than local options. Korea and Egypt will likely always be tough beer locale and detail.

I'm going to regret asking but I have to. I get pouring all the various liquors into a disgusting death mix in a trash can, but why were the floors covered in plastic and why weren't you allowed to wear shoes? I am holding out hope that there was a reason other than forcing everyone to slosh around in each other's vomit all night...... :grimacing::stuck_out_tongue:

And yeah, those OHTT beers are my favorite hoppy brews at Night Shift. I remember particularly liking the Vic Secret batch a while back.

Good afternoon NBSers! All in all, it's been a great weekend here. My wife was out traveling for most of the weekend, but my son came home for the day yesterday and we goofed off, visiting a few breweries in preparation for the next BIF. A side benefit is that he muled home some great GA and NC beers that I can't get here - I'm so proud of him! One of the brews he brought was from Scofflaw Brewing Co in Atlanta. I've heard a lot about this brewery and I'm happy to finally try some:

Basement IPA, Scofflaw Brewing Co, Atlanta, GA

Looks old-school (which I like): an almost crystal-clear golden color with a fluffy off-white head. Bright citrus aromas of oranges, lemons, faint dank tones, and faint malt. I'm surprised at the lemon but it compliments the other notes rather than detracting. The Citra hops shine through on the palate with the flavors as above. Bitterness is soft with a mild astringency. The big surprise is the sweetness on the finish. It's not caramel and the malt is bready. The sweetness compliments the hops and alcohol leading to a nice finish. Medium bodied and certainly not cloying. Another outstanding IPA. Cheers!

Ha! There's a good chance I'll be up all night after drinking this caffeine bomb!

    Canned 7/14/17.
Moderate pour yields a 3/4 inch tan head over a semi-translucent brown body with scant lacing. Head is gone within a few minutes. Nose of roasted coffee, hops, and ever so slight malt coming through. Taste mirrors nose with nice dry, slightly bitter finish. Okay feel and overall, I can't wait to share this with the local baristas because I like it and I think they will too. Cheers!
