I've gone through the Beerfly stuff so I have some ideas, but seeing if anyone had any input as to stuff currently available that an Illinoisan might be interested in. Should White rajah and Head Hunter be available? I'm assuming there won't be any Jackie O's? What about Alesmith (speedway??), Avery, any place with Shelton Bros stuff, or a place good for sours? Any other input or ideas?

Thanks very much for any and all assistance.

White Rajah should be around, Head Hunter if you look hard. Most places have sold it all, but there was a release last week, so there could still be some lying around. Speedway is shelf material, even in Giant Eagle, as is Avery (remember, under 12% only). Shelton stuff--good luck. Pick up Columbus IPA too (as good as Rajah IMO), and maybe stop by Columbus Brewing to get some Bodhi. No Jackie O's in Columbus.

Pretty sure I saw Speedway at Savor last week. Weiland's had a few cases of Head Hunter last week but they're probably gone. Haven't seen any White Rajah. Both shops definitely worth checking out. Also House Beer on High is a nice (tiny) bar/bottleshop with a pretty quickly rotating selection and very reasonable prices on the to-go things.

Rajah I saw at Palmer's and 14-0 on Hudson, Giant Eagle in Clintonville had Speedway. Tilquin is around too (Barrel and bottle comes to mind).

Columbus IPA...$8.99 for a really enjoyable beer.

I had to return some Fat Heads IPA last week as it was skunked (Cleveland). Not sure what happened there.

Thanks very much for the input everyone! Sounds like it shouldn't be too hard to find at least one of Ohio's finest ipas and I'll be happy to grab some speedway too. Also, thanks for the heads up on the Columbus ipa and Columbus Bodhi. Hopefully things go well, and I get to spend more time in the Columbus area.

Any Rajah hanging around Columbus is likely old. Just an FYI, it has not been around Cleveland in some time(unless they released a batch this week).

Old product. It has been sitting on shelves here, too. A bit too pricey, it seems.

Not sure how "old" we're talking, but I am saying new cases within 3 weeks. Rajah doesn't fall off that fast IMO.

Well, I can't claim to be in local stores every day, but I have seen it a total of two times(bottles outside the brewery) in about four months. I live right around the corner from the pub and I know where to find it when it's on shelves. The only reliable place to get it lately has been the brewpub, and 90 percent of the time, that is draft only.

I can't guarantee it's old, but it probably is. Buyer beware.

And FWIW, I think Rajah is still better than most IPAs out there ,even after a month. My concern would be if it was 2-3 months old.

Check Bodega and Brothers Drake. They both have our beer in stock just not sure exactly what is on draft.

Thanks again for the input everybody! and yes, if there are particular bars/pubs/growler fill places, etc. you recommend, please let me know, I believe I'll try to stay a night in Columbus on my way back to Illinos. Bodgea and Brothers Drake both look excellent.

Definitely give House Beer a try - great bottle selection, and 6 nice tap selections in a laid back setting. Worth checking Untappd for who has Bodhi on tap (it's only available on tap). You will not be disappointed.

Since no one has mentioned sours I'd check:

    • Weilands - possibly largest import section (though imo their stuff seems oldest on the shelf)
    • From the Vine - almost always has 3F stuff, and likely various Boon (plus Fantome for related but not sour)
    • Barrel and Bottle - sometimes they get interesting stuff, only place I have seen get Cantillon in a long while though it doesn't last

Not sure if you get Rodenbach but it ought to be at all of the bottle shops.

Bodega is busy most nights but if you want selection there's no match. Growlers are tough 'round these parts, but CBC restaurant, Barrel and Bottle, and House Beer definitely sell them.

All White Rajah you may find right now is not fresh as they have not bottled any in awhile.

Blacklick wine & spirits has a decent sour shelf....east side of Cbus on broad east of 270. Saw 3F Oude gueuze and Sch.Kriek, tilquin, hanssens, rodenbach plus more yesterday. They also had speedway and white rajah in stock. Picked up a madam rose there too.

I'll recommend Cbc bodhi and IPA as well. Their brewpub/restaurant is right off I70 downtown so it may be a convenient stop. World of Beer is right near CBC too if that's what you're into.

3 bottle shops within a mile of each other that should fit your needs are Savor, Weilands, and palmers. Best draft list in town IMO is bodegas or bobs bar. Good luck!

Thinking about staying over near the CBC and hitting up bodegas as well. Thanks everyone for the awesome input!

I'll second Blacklick. Always has good stuff. That's where I picked up my bottles of Duchessic, even though they are long gone there. I liked it, but if you see Rivertown Lambic, I suggest trying it, it's pretty solid, if not a true lambic.

And if you are willing to drive to From The Vine, you'll be near Sawmill, which means you will be near the Andersons on Sawmill, which also has a huge selection of stuff, including some glassware (The Bruery tulips, Jacobins Rouge tulips, among others).
