Just saw this article on boston.com about this new brewery on Landsdowne. Haven't heard a peep about it. The situation already sounds a bit lame. And more cliche fruit beers (another place serving beer with blueberries floating in it? Beer Works right down the street has been doing that forever.) Regardless, curious if anyone here has been yet? https://www.boston.com/culture/beer...-drink-at-the-new-brewery-next-to-fenway-park EDIT: Noticed I misspelled the name in the title but don't see how to change that now.
What a loser can't even spell munkey right! But this sounds awful. It's like the brewpub world has come full circle, with restaurants assuming people will just drink whatever swim is on tap because it's brewed on premise. I mean, this is like the keurig of beer. You buy a pod of wort from a preselected catalog of recipes and the brewing system takes care of the rest?
Yeah sounds like the owner just wanted a turnkey situation where they don't have to think about the beers too much. Funny thing is, it might do just fine in that precise area.
Pretty sure i met with the company that does the in-house pre-made brewing for this restaurant at the New England Food Show. It sounded horrible then, and it still does now. Obviously it was a food show and they were pitching for businesses, but it sounded like they were all about profits with no love for beer. I asked about how they felt about John Harvard stopping their in-house brewing and they were just like "it's impossible to not make a profit off of being a brewpub, they must have been doing something wrong"
I happened to be in that area recently and figured what the hell, I'd try it out. Their beer is not that great, BUT they do have others on tap that are not theirs that are way better. The place itself does NOT have a good brewery feel. It's much more club-like to me. The one cool thing is that they do have pool tables and other cool games in the back. Sadly I would maybe return to play pool and drink the beer that is not theirs. The food wasn't bad either. Who knows, maybe they'll get better in time, but I still hated the vibe in there. Nothing to write home about and nothing to go out of your way to see.
This may be more of a cynical situation but I'm baffled by breweries that open with beer that there's no way the brewers could believe is competitive in the current landscape. Like they went through all this trouble to get licensing, loans etc. and usually these are experienced brewers from established breweries and the first things they put out are like middling West Coast IPAs or something. Not going to name any specific Ones because I dont want to shit on them but theres a few recent ones in this area that I just dont understand the thinking.
The perfect analogy. That said K-cups have their time and place for me & I'm usually satisfied with one every once in a while as a hassle-free cup of coffee. And by the same token I'm not looking to geek out on beer every opportunity. Many times when I'm socializing I'm more concerned with the folks Im with & my environment, the beer is secondary. I think this place is & the brewing philosophy is pretty harmless in the large scheme of things. I'd only be concerned if these types of places started replacing other real breweries, but I don't see that happening.
I think the point is, it's unnecessary. Good beer is available everywhere, why build an in house brewery to make mediocre beer?
