This is all true, but with a large group of local attendees who know each other fairly well, and can put faces and names to avatars and usernames, it's helpful to see what people plan to bring and connect in a more predictable format. We can comment beforehand on beers listed, request a taste, ask about other possibilities, or plan verticals, and still enjoy the randomness that inevitably ensues. I spent my day(s) last year bouncing around all over the place, and was offered incredible things by people I'd never met. I have no doubt it will be the same this year. But, I like salivating over the lists, adhered to or not!

I was awaiting Janda's flying elbow off the table. His buddy was falling asleep while standing up as well. I think Crass3000 crapped his pants and was arrested. Too bad Janda isn't making it this year.

Yeah - that certainly made for some interesting banter at 8:30 in the morning. Christ...wonder if they'll be coming this year? I do remember seeing Crass being taken out in a golf cart, but I've conflicting reports as to the reason. All I know is he probably deserved it.

I've never had such a weird moment with any other BA that I have met on this site. We did an in person trade that went off without a hitch. Went to TH and he was there and wouldnt let go of my hand when I went to shake it, very weird. Then he did the same thing to Pat. Not as bad as "the close talker" but pretty close. Then when Pat pulled away he says "what are you some kinda asshole or something?"

Anyone from Rochester got spare room for 1 to ride up? Looking to avoid driving by myself, or driving altogether and figured someone may be able to fit me in. PM if you can. Finally have some beers I think people would enjoy me bringing.

I might have room for you depending on which vehicle I take. I can't stay very long into Saturday because I have to work so you may be on your own for a ride home....

What's the target date for bottling pseudoSue? The label looks great, by the way.

Anyone remember this from last year? We were in line (inside the brewery) ready to get our bottles when some tall guy was talking shit to everyone and then took a swing at a security guard, only to be head locked and tackled, kicked out, and i assume arrested? What a fucktard, i hope people like that guy stay home. Now that eBay market is gone, maybe the resale folks will stay clear of the event.

People put way too much stock in the "Ebay Market." Honestly how many, of the roughly 9k bottles that were sold at the brewery that day, do you think went to the Bay? A hundred? A thousand? I think, while there were most definitely people there with the sole purpose of reselling the bottles, that they represent only a small fraction of a percent of the attendees.
The bigger factor is Surly is popular. Really, really popular. Just come to one of the tours, or watch the Surly cart at Target Field. People who, six months to a year ago, were proudly wearing trucker caps and tipping back PBR's. Now instinctively flock like the salmon of Capistrano to everything Surly.
But they aren't the only ones. Plenty of older suburbanites are yielding to the siren song that is Surly and local craft beer.
People want good beer. People want to be part of an event. Darkness Day is both. For every one profiteer that won't beer there, two or three craftbeer newbies will take their place.

Too bad he's gone. Some of the extreme late-night ramblings of Crass3000 were quite amusing, assuming, of course, that you're not easily offended. Sounds like he's about the same in person.
