I kind of see what they're doing with such a wide variety of releases early in the game as a sort of crowd-sourced R&D process. Not to say that they'll eventually slow down and just put out a handful of year-round releases with a half-dozen seasonals mixed in, but the way they take in everyone's opinions and comment on how they're looking to make each batch better than the previous one and sharing their methods is inspiring and kind of awesome -- and, of course, beneficial to them as well as they engage with so many opinionated customers in a cost-effective manner.

right..... Pipeworks doesn't have a brew pub for R&D purposes like others.

Well Read Temptress Raspberry Berliner is out today at a few places. Capones and WLV for sure, who knows what other stores their little van stopped at to drop off some great stuff. Dropped off another new one too, North & Western Dry Hopped Saison.

Wasn't the hugest fan of abduction. It was super fruity to me, didn't seem like a stout. I have another bottle that I will crack later, maybe it was too fresh.

Yea, I don't see cough syrup in it at all... it's dry and fruity for sure though. However, keep in mind our favorite stout is Black Albert which is malt and yeast fruit driven and Abduction is loosely, very loosely, based on. So the fruit note we stressed for sure, but shouldn't be cough syrup like? This first batch is super dry so shouldn't be syrupy at all. Next batch is out in a week or two and finished two gravity points higher (same ABV), where it is supposed to be, and shouldn't be as dry as the initial bottles.

Hate to argue with you but what else are you referring to besides End of Days, in which case you are absolutely correct. But other than that not really sure what you are referring to? What stuff are we producing all the time? Almost everything we've done is a first batch so far and doesn't seem like we've gotten a lot of 'eh' from the ratings...

exactly right. brewpub brewing is the most free form of production. you can try things once and see how they work. and we have the ability with in-house artists and self-distribution to attempt that. We're like a production brewpub.

Hmmm.. I like Black Albert too. I definitely get the dryness part. Hopefully I can try the next batch. I dk I was just getting a strange flavor from it when I had it yesterday right after the poivre noir.

My guess is that it comes down to economies of scale. For Half Acre - maybe Revolution but their brewery is so much larger now that the comparison is even less applicable - if they want to make money, they have to brew beer at capacity. That means much (much!!) larger batches than what Pipeworks will make. As you scale up batch size, you're going to scale up ingredients -- and while I'm sure some ingredients are more cost efficient to buy in bulk, I suspect things like sour mangoes and raspberries are not among them.

But that's just when it comes to bottling/canning. Maybe not so much Piece, but every brewery puts out loads of different/unique beers but they're generally draft only (and usually only available at their respective brewpubs).

bought a well read temptress today at west lakeview and just opened it. this is delicious; no stinky cheese anywhere in sight. just tastes like a really nice raspberry wheat beer. i'd love to have a more tart version of this, but i think this is a very nice start.

wife said that it tasted like a mix between the purple and red colors of these hard candies she used to get a long while ago, after which she promptly asked me to continue filling her glass.

Hey pipeworks, you guys plan on getting your stuff way out to naperville area soon? I was talkin to our beer orderer at my job site (high-end chain grocer), and she said she saw you in our system, but there wasnt a distro. I've given her a hyperdog before and she loved it. If you guys need a 'vans-men' to haul out here, I will work for beer. :sunglasses:

lol so you know! yes... we are in the system at the high-end chain... and should be able to make deliveries to them next week. Naperville is on our list of potential place but might be a few months off. As is Palatine.
