Good evening BA, hope everyone had a good Monday. I still had to work. Pretty mellow day once again, nothing more than a few instant messages and e-mails all day. Looking like a busy thread today from the federal holiday so far.

    Today's reviews:

Awesome IPA! Aromas and flavors of big tangerine, grapefruit, peach, pineapple, passion fruit, papaya, mango, melon, guava, blueberry, lemon zest, orange peel, citrus rind, light pepper, and pine hops; with some light caramel, toasted biscuit malts; and herbal, floral, grassy hop earthiness. Light-moderate pine, citrus rind, grassy, spicy bitterness on the finish. Medium carbonation/body; balanced bready/grainy malt and sticky/resinous/rindy hops in the mouthfeel. Light-moderate increasing resin/rind dryness, no hop astringency. Extremely dank and vibrant hops; nice bready malt backbone, with no residual sweetness. Very drinkable and never overly aggressive. A really amazing showcase of Mosaic overall. Getting more berry/guava than usual in this case; intensely tropical. Apparently they also use Zythos in the hop bill. 4.1

Estonian Porter. This was awesome! Great head retention and thick soapy lacing on the glass. Aromas and flavors of big milk/dark chocolate, cocoa, coffee, honey, caramel, brown sugar, toffee, vanilla, cream, and toasted dark/brown bread; with lighter notes of nuttiness, molasses, licorice, dark fruit, leather, smoke, char, and herbal/woody/peppery hops. Light herbal/spicy hop and roast/char bitterness on the finish. Light-medium carbonation and medium-plus body; with an awesome creamy, silky, velvety mouthfeel. Light sticky hops, chalky roast, and dryness. Never acrid or astringent. Very drinkable, zero warming 7.8%. Really impressed with this. Very rich and complex malts; pleasant earthy hops and fruity yeast character in the background. Spot on Robust porter all around, never too roasty. Plenty of crystal/Munich malt character, added lactose sweetness. Wouldn't call it an American or English on porter style. It's somewhere in between. Not quite Baltic either, not fruity enough. It's unique. 4.15

Continuing on the NBS BIF from @jdell15 . Normal wild ale aged in oak. Delicious! Good head retention and lacing for the style. Aromas and flavors of big lightly tart/sour lemon, lime, peach, pear, pineapple, honeydew melon, raspberry, strawberry, red/green apple, white wine, hay, straw, grass, oak, and pepper; with some wheat/crackery malts; and light
notes of leathery/musty funk, oaken vanilla, and white vinegar. Light fruity/lactic tart/sourness and yeast/oak tannin spiciness on the finish. Medium-high carbonation and light-medium body. Balanced grainy wheat, lactic acid, and oak tannins in the mouthfeel. Lightly increasing lactic/tannic dryness, no puckering sourness. Fairly crisp/clean finishing. Refreshingly drinkable, 6%. Not a ton of Lacto, but decent(was hoping for more); however the Brett complexity is absolutely spot on here, loved it. Great oak presence and balancing pils/wheat malts. No complaints. 4

Having this new Pot & Kettle w/ Vanilla. Think I like the coffee version a bit better but this is a nice addition. Big marshmallow fluff-like vanilla up front with the nice oatmeal porter notes combining for a root beer float-esque experience. Subtle dried fruity notes underneath with roasty toasted caramely dark malts and some earthy hops. Pretty interesting brew. Glad to see them making more use of some other added ingredients. Hope to see more offerings from them with similar ingredients added. Still waiting for a fruit milkshake IPA from a local brewery... Just sayin. Cheers!

Hey all, my trip was unexpectedly extended a day. While that's an unfortunate (and unpleasant) turn of events, it did afford me a couple more hours with my kids, and the chance to split the second mystery beer from @JBowenGeorgia 's NBS BIF box:

Since I didn't get to this on Sunday, I'm going to talk about it here.

Right off the bat, I'm thinking DFH. The Jimminy Cricket sticker covers any logo, but the cap is copper colored. Moreover, DFH is known for strange brews, and that would certainly be in line with a mystery brew.

Based on that, I start telling my wife about the DFH Ancient Ales. After all, they're a super cool concept.

    Well, on to the beer!

The aroma is heavy on prunes, figs, and dates; lightly spicy and sweet notes similar to many Belgian yeast strains; a touch of brown sugar. Slightly over sweet, almost stale in a way.

Reminiscent of Belgians, but it's very light colored, and the head was fizzy and disappeared almost immediately. Plus, there are some aromas there that just don't quite fit. I'm not convinced.

On the palate, I'm getting figs, grape juice, apples, and light brown sugar, going with hay, wheat, and mild spices. Although it's somewhat sweet and quite fruity, I'm not thinking Belgian. Thing is, I don't know what it is, other than a Belgian-ish fruity brown ale.

Sticky finish to an otherwise light brew. However, there's a surprising warmth that tells me this brew is higher ABV than it tastes, possibly 8-10% (or more, if it's exceptionally well done).

    OK, the reveal!

DFH Birra Etrusca Bronze Ancient Ale

Wow, the history and backstory on this brew are well worth the read. The odd flavors, mild staleness, unidentified spices, juicy fruitiness - it all comes together perfectly based on the ingredients.

Granted, I was a little off on the actual fruit used (raisins and pomegranates). The spices were impossible to nail down beyond vague, well, "spices." And I couldn't identify a style - but I think that's actually accurate in this case!

While not the greatest beer ever brewed, wow, what a very cool experience, and a hell of a tough blind review. Thanks yet again, JB!

Great beer to transition into Fall with (although it’s still feeling like Summer lately in Jersey with this horrible muggy weather).
