Yes, Philly is a great food town and so much better than cheesesteak. John's pork is so much better than a cheesesteak could ever dream of being.

When you get to Baltimore go directly to Chaps Pit beef

    You are welcome

Probably a minority here, but if you can get to Vedge - that place is amazing.

Vedge is my favorite restaurant in the city. Going in three weeks, done many a nye there. They have a pretty nicely curated taplist usually too. Should really start a Philly restaurant and beer thread.

My only experience at Vedge was phenomenal, and V Street is my choice lunch spot whenever I have time and am in Center City.

I know this is BeerAdvocate, but the Philly wine scene has been pretty great lately, which may soon die due to what the PLCB is making restaurants go through right now. Definitely hit up places like Kensington Quarters, A.Kitchen/Bar, Walnut Street Cafe, Martha, Townsend, ITV, etc. etc. etc. in case it soon becomes impossible to get really cool wine in the city.

Ok so been thinking about it and you will be pretty much in my old stomping grounds and this is the route I would take. For an interesting culinary experience go over to Reading Terminal and just browse, lots to look at and see. For before dinner drinks hit up Tria in Rittenhouse or Varga bar. I liked Tria as they usually had some interesting beers on tap and liked their small plates. Dandelion is good, great fish and chips and cask beers like the British pub it is, once sat in the same room as Bradley Cooper and Jennifer Lawrence when they were filming Silver Linings playbook. Or go to Good Dog and get the good dog burger with cheese cooked in the middle and sweet potato fries. There is also a pool table and darts upstairs. From there you can go get drinks and desert at Parc after the dinner rush and if it's nice out sit out under the heaters on the square. I always preferred to finish the night at the back bar at monks, something about that place just felt right capping off the night and it is less crowded. This route is what I would call middle tier price and exclusivity wise for a less hassle kind of night and all within a couple blocks of a nice part of the city to walk around. Walk down Delancey and Spruce St for a bit too, just a nice quiet stroll with some nice row homes. There are much more tourist things to do but this sequence was a proven winner lol. Enjoy the city, I'm not originally from here (from Northern Virginia) but lived there for 8 years and it is a great walking city and great time of year.

The Tria Tap Room usually has better beers on than the wine bar.

I will be coming up before Thanksgiving and doing a day trip. I was wondering if this is feasible in a day: Mutter Museum>Tired Hands Cafe>Wells Fargo Center for Flyers game.

depends how long you're at the Mutter, my wife spent over three hours in there. Driving or training?

Be aware that for a 7:00 game, with rush hour and game traffic, it could easily take you 60+ minutes to drive from Ardmore to the Stadium complex.

Yes, that's what I was afraid of. Thanks all for the words of advice.

If someone wants to do an IP trade for San Francisco Bay Area liquids, DM me and I'll see what we can work out.

Probably in he minority here but been to Monk's once and hated it. I'll have to try Vedge the next time I'm in Philly.

If you hated it for being crowded, then I totally understand. It's a very uncomfortable space when there are a lot of people there. Standing at the front bar is a terrible time with the wait staff constantly walking through. I only go there during the day any more.

If you're going into town for the Mutter, just park in town, visit one (or more) of our many excellent beer bars, and then take the Broad St. Line down to AT&T station. It drops you right next to all of the stadiums. Driving in-and-out-and-in again is going to take up a lot of your time.

I've only been to the one out in U City (which you could take the L to), but City Tap House usually has a stellar beer list and sports bar-type vibe and several TVs. The one in Logan seems to be even more geared towards sports, you should be able to head there and grab some good beer and watch the games.

Awesome thanks for the rec! That's literally 0.1 of a mile from the hotel.
