I really enjoy hoppy sours, so you never know .

From what I gather, most NE IPAs utilize entirely late hop additions- so that's where the lack of complexity seems to stem. But if there's other stuff going on in the beer, that quality is usually mitigated.

My favorite German-style beer is made by a local brewery called Long Wooden Spoon. It's a Hefeweisen with big upfront banana and bubblegum notes and some moderate clove spiciness on the back end. What really impressed me is that none of it tastes artificial and it's very crisp. In other words, if you didn't know better, you'd swear that the beer was made in Germany.

Yea - there is a place near us that does a mediocre at best Berliner and recently they released the bourbon barrel aged version ...:nauseated_face:

I love so many, that it's impossible to pick a favorite. I wouldn't want to do without Weihenstephaner. :sunglasses:

If my answer we're wrong I wouldn't have posted it. Paulaner marzen is not the popular choice.

I collect those goats! I keep them tied up on my fridge. I thought I was the only freak that didn’t throw them away. Glad to see I’m not alone!

Yes, but the OP then went on to reference Hills Farmstead Mary, an excellent German style brew, but definitively made in America. Hence the confusion.

Either Weihenstephaner Hefeweissbier or Ayinger Celebrator, depending on what I'm in the mood for. I'd like to try more German pilsners, but every time I check them they're either really old or undated.

My favorites are the ones I can get. Ba dum tss! Honestly for oktoberfests at my local weman's I did not see any spaten and I drank warsteiner and weihenstephaner only. I was happy to see some fresh hofbrau original there the other day as well as the usual assortment of german bombers like korbinian.

OK, I was exaggerating a bit. But it's annoying for me as a historian for someone to ame a supposedly historical beer that is so wide of the mark.

Well, then I guess you need to clarify this new found fact for me, because I can't find any comparison between Coors Light and Paulaner Märzen, other than by contrast.

I don't think that the 2017s were exported. I did see a few places in NYC that carried the Fastenbier this spring, but when I went to buy some I saw that they were leftover 2016s. Yup, I tried one for the hell of it, but it wasn't worth going back for more.

This crap just pisses me off. I know that you generally have better luck than I do when it comes to 'fresh' German brewed beer but when they sell year old product for seasonal beers this stuff just drives me crazy. I am tempted to just refuse ever buying German brewed beers ever again but....

Non-cheers to one year old German brewed beer.

This wasn't the importer, imo. My gut tells me it was a few rogue retailers.

I think you would give an even bigger non-cheers to the Oktoberfests all over the stores here that are years old. This isn't just a problem with German beers though.
